Mourinho To Liverpool? No Thanks

By on April 21, 2011

So, the “Special one” does it again. He has only gone and won the Copa Del Ray (King’s Cup) in Spain by beating the mighty Barcelona, in extra time 1-0. Ronaldo headed home the goal for his 42nd of the season late in the game so, another trophy claimed by Mourinho.

He has now won silverware for FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid amongst others in his remarkable Managerial career. But the point is, how does he win trophies?

He does it by adopting extremely negative tactics that, sadly, do often prevail against even the best teams in the world like Barca. He started without a recognised striker, leaving Adebeyor on the bench and instead set about Barcelona with 10 men committed to tackle and fight for every ball.

It worked, Ronaldo hit them on the break with a header in extra-time, a great header on the counter-attack. But, if this is how you play football then I don’t wanna know. Defend at all costs, negagate the opposition and maybe, get a goal on the break. Thats Mourinho’s tactics and always have been.

Some rumours have been flying about that he is interested in returning to the Premiership, that may be so, but I for one, don’t wanna see him next or near the club. I would much rather see Kenny Dalglish get a long contract with his attacking brand of football and José can look elsewhere. What Fenway Sports Group think is still unclear.

oh yes, i wasnt supporting barca last night, i actually wanted football to be the winner. was looking forward to two of the best squads in world football battling for a trophy in a one off match. jose tactics were desingned to frustrate, more defensive than stoke trying to stay in the prem with a real squad that has to be at least 5 times more costly than stokes, perhaps ronaldo alone is.

i bet uefa are exstatic that barca v real is not the champions league final because that was not a good advert for the european game. i will watch the semis with the same hope that i went into last nights game with but i know that real will be cynical and dirty. i really like alot of the real players but none of them did themselves any justice last night.

jose havs proven time and again that he is the anti football manager, most of the spanish press hate him, even reals former stars are coming out and critisizing his style and he is winning trophies for them. it was the same in italy, its no wonder why he likes england, chelsea had won next to nothing when he arrived, they were gonna love him, and he was coming to this country to play his negative style where houllier had already spoilt the game here with his two defensive midfielders, and the likes of everton who played on the counter attck really well with a team built by moyes for next to nothing (especially compared to joses teams), we love an eccentric here as we dont get treated to it in football as often as they do on the continent, so when someone comes in and says it in a new way we like him, even if hes a bit of a dick….im not saying that everyone likes him but there is a large group that do, so its no suprise that he keeps saying he would come back to these shores.

when i saw that there was a whiff of him coming to liverpool, i was really disapointed, i hate the win at all costs, i have heard talks of arsenal fans suggesting that they are not going to buy season tickets next year, as arsenes team is full of empty promises and trophieless seasons, but i would rather not win anything and watch his team than get a hat full of trophies and play his horrible style, three defensive midfield!! come on.

thankyou for bieng my platform for a anti jose rant.

about 1 hour ago has just said it all. I hate that man mourinho!!! i hate negativity. He can win the whole universe by he is not and can never be a choice for any good football clubs. He can be the answer to any desperate club but to me he is a ton of shit. Denying good football, it’s well deserved victory!!! Mourinho the chief of anti-football.

What a load of hypocritical bollocks. So he does what must be done to win? That makes him a bad manager, an anti-football manager? Dalglish did the same over and over again, even Sunday against Arsenal when we had one creative player on the field in Suarez. What you’re saying is that if you were a Real fan you’d rather lose 5×0 AGAIN trying “to play football” like you say, rather than beating them to a title you haven’t won in 17 years “playing anti-football”, as you say? The flaw in your logic is that any team could outplay a better opponent just for the sake of it. You can’t, mate, you have to grind it out. If Liverpool played Barcelona today, the only way we could beat them would be closing the midfield, stoping their play fulltime and kicking it upfield towards Carroll. Would that be antifootball? Perhaps, but if we got a title out of it would anyone complain, or would they call Dalglish a tactical genius? With Mourinho, Chelsea was outplaying 90% of the opponents, and when they couldn’t, they’d grinded it out of them. Except when they played us, because we had even more “grindness” under Benitez then them. And for grindness I mean, “antifootball-let’s-get-on-their-faces” attitude.

Those who chide Mourinho’s football genius with jealousy is simply in their own world of denial syndrome and jealousy. Good defensive work with fast flowing counter attacking football is beautiful football. You guys wake up! Recognise talent when you see one. Numerous titles…they are not flukes.

All over the internet , you can distinguish between ‘US soccer’ writers and ‘European football’ writers:

The US based authors think that this was a negative game,
the European authors think that this was an outstanding display of football at the highest level, fought with all weapons available.

Interesting difference – but I am telling you- this was a true classic, a marvellous display of the beautiful game.
    Hala Madrid, hala Barca.
