Ancelotti Favours Rooney Over Messi, While Tevez Also Linked

By on May 9, 2011

Carlo Ancelotti has said in a statement that he would rather take Wayne Rooney over Lionel Messi if it comes to the dream transfer next season.  There can be no doubt that Wayne Rooney is a quality player and he has gone on to set new records every single season. However, is he actually better than Messi, who has won the World Player of the Year Award?

The simple and straightforward answer might seem no, but the closer you analyse, the closer you come to the feeling that Rooney will be more suited to Chelsea rather than Messi. Rooney has been a Premier League player, while Messi with his small figure will take some time getting used to the physicality of the English League.

If you take the probability of Chelsea signing either one of these next season, it would be almost negligible. However, we could at least be in with a chance of signing a player, who resembles Rooney very much, Carlos Tevez.

There have been reports that Chelsea could be involved in a swap deal with Manchester City, which could see Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez heading in opposite directions. Of course, it will certainly involve a hefty fee on the part of Chelsea given that Didier Drogba is 33 years old, while Tevez has a lot of years ahead of him. If this move actually happens, then it could at least solve Ancelotti’s major problem, deciding Chelsea’s strike partnership. Tevez is more of a player who is willing to sacrifice for the good of the team, while the same cannot be said of Drogba at all times.

Even if Drogba does not move to Manchester City, then a move to the United States could well be on the cards. Either way, this summer is going to be extremely important for the big Ivorian.

you UK medias always cry about physical, physical, physical… i remember once when the great Robbie Fowler complain the scouts in Britain focus on PHYSICAL than talent. that’s why ur national team is far from entertaining + glory!!! Messi vs Rooney??? Ronney is very good player, no question but with messi he must born again twice. Messi is on his way to be z greatest ever. Oh u remind me u medias were too hasty to compare rooney & pele. Oh English?

I completely agree with you, why people compare messi with rooney, ronaldo N tevez. Person with better soccer understanding automatically can differentiate. Messi is best and just see he will be greatest player for ever

Well Tevez and Messi are the same size and Messi has done pretty well scoring against English teams in the CL (11 games, 9 goals?) so I can’t say I agree with your anaysis.

I SIMPLY CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE AUTHOR MEANS BY ROONEY HAVING ‘GONE ON TO SET NEW RECORDS EVERY SEASON’. THIS SEASON HE HAS SCORED ONLY 10 GOALS IN 26 LEAGUE APPEARANCES , WHEREAS MESSI HAS SCORED 31 GOALS IN 32 MATCHES. ROONEY’S ONLY EXCEPTIONAL SEASON WAS 2009-10 & LIKE ANY OTHER ENGLISH PLAYER HE IS WAY OVERRATED

we all know dat MESSI HAS NO RIVAL in this current generation. I think there is no need comparing the great one with with ronaldo talkless of rooney. Infact any club dat messi goes to he wil do thesame, thats de plane fact.
