Ray Wilkins Has His Say On Ancelotti

Chelsea’s former assistant manager Ray Wilkins has stated that the club’s manager Carlo Ancelotti should not be sacked despite failing to end this season on a high note.

The former AC Milan manager’s future was in bigger doubt after seeing his side lose 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford last Sunday, a defeat that puts Chelsea’s title hopes this year to an agonizing end.

In fact, the Red Devils also managed to knock Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last month, winning 3-1 on aggregate.

Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink, who was very successful during his time at Chelsea in 2009 by leading the Blues to FA Cup glory, has been strongly linked with a return to Stamford Bridge although the Russia coach is reportedly not keen on the job.

Fellow Dutchmen Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard have both been tipped to be the next boss of Chelsea while Andre Villas-Boas, the man who has recently guided Porto to the Europa Cup final, could also be a possible replacement.

Carlo Ancelotti, who only has one more year left on his contract, has admitted that his side had fallen short this season but denied that cash-splashing at the transfer window is needed to revamp his squad. When asked about his future at Stamford Bridge, the man who guided the Blues to a Premier League and FA Cup Double last year answered : “I don’t know.” But Wilkins is sure sacking Ancelotti would be a bad decision:

He told BBC Radio Five Live: “I don’t think it needs a radical change.

“But they certainly need new players to freshen the place up.

“Wholesale changes, starting from the coach, would be the wrong way to go.”
