Arsenal Transfer News: Arsenal Closing In On Defender | £22m French Ace Linked

By on July 21, 2011

There has been some fascinating transfer news, gossip, rumors, and speculation surrounding the Gunners, especially in the past few hours. Without further ado, here is the Arsenal Transfer News Roundup.

Arsenal Closing In On Cahill

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Gary Cahill from Bolton. Cahill, has been heavily linked to a move to the Gunners this summer and is reported that his 17 million pound valuation is what’s delaying the deal.

In my opinion, in order for the Gunners to complete the deal, they are going to involve players in the deal with Ignasi Miguel and Henri Lansbury mooted as possible makeweights. Hopefully the report is true and that we see Gary Cahill as a Gunner soon,  as it will also complete a major requirement this summer, which is the center back position.

In the Same Article:

John Cross also reports, that Barcelona officials are flying to London in order to seal the deal for the services of Cesc Fabregas. Guardiola stated earlier today, that the Gunners are willing to negotiate the transfer, which didn’t come as a surprise to many, including me.

In the meantime, Peter Hill-Wood confirmed that they will listen to “very good offers” for Fabregas and also said that they received a 26 million pound bid from Barca, which was rejected straight away and haven’t got an offer since. Simply and I’ll say this again, if Barca want to acquire Fabregas, they must pay the 40 million pound asking price or piss off, and nothing less.

Arsenal In “Serious Talks” With Bayern Munich Regarding Ribery?

Very fascinating news indeed, as Footy Bunker state that “according to sources in Bavaria and London, the Gunners are in serious talks with Bayern Munich over the sale of Franck Ribery.” According to the report, Bayern Munich value Ribery at 22 million pounds and it depends on whether Fabregas will be sold. The reason for the low valuation for a player of his quality, is because of poor form and injuries, which has affected his performances last season.

I honestly, seriously doubt this report, especially as it’s the only site reporting the story. I don’t believe that Ribery will be sold for that kind of price, as he’s highly valued by Bayern Munich. If this report is true, then Ribery would be a quality signing for the Gunners, as despite his rather poor form last season, he bounced back strongly in the end of last season. He’s a top player, pacy, excellent dribbler, crosser and has great technique.

Botleho Closing In On A Loan Move To Rayo Vallecano

According to the Young Guns Blog, Pedro Botleho, is set to join Rayo Vallecano on another loan spell, this time in La Liga. The 21-year-old Brazilian, who impressed on loan with Cartagena, was told by Wenger that he needed to test himself in La Liga before being handed a chance with the Gunners.

I believe that Botelho is a talented player and I was looking forward to watching him play in an Arsenal shirt. But I believe that a season in the top flight with regular football, would do him the world of good. I wish the best of luck with Rayo Vallecano.

What do you think? What are your thoughts on the latest on both Cahill and Fabregas? Do you believe in the news on Ribery? Do you agree that Botelho should go for another loan spell?

Cheers and take care,

Ribbery eh, I will believe it when I see him playing for us. How many times have we been pipped at the finishing line by another club? More than I want to remember. I have nothing more to add.
Hope we have some more players coming in this month, Wenger claims that his team is good is delusional.

was it three seasons ago we wer really in the hunt for ribery and we believed a deal was near completion. but then bayern counter offered and we wouldnt match bayerns bid… which was like 30 million euro if i recall. that was when ribery was 24 and playing amazing football.

So why do some people want to believe that now we are willing to pay 22 mil pound for him when he is 28 years old and always injured.

if fabregas is sold ramsey will be his replacement. simple as that. thats how wenger works. and we will never see the 35 mill from fab sale again.

For the money they’re asking for Ribery is ridiculous he’s 28 and injury prone. He might have been a good player a few years ago when we were first linked with him, but we have enough crocks at Arsenal without paying over the top prices for another one.

My ideal team based on linked transfers to the squad

    Sczezney – Enrique – Cahill – Vermalen – Sagna

    Gervinho – Ribery – Melo – Nasri

    Benzema – Van-persie.

Obviously missing key players like wilshire and song and 4 of these players are un-tested in premier league, but this team shows a little more maturity. Obviously this is unrealistic as tight-wad wenger won’t buy all 3 new players, but I would be happy going into the season with this team and some good back up players who wenger would rotate anyway. There r many other variations I’m sure, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on any marquee signings….

would be gret to see botelho on loan in la liga – especially if he gets a chance to play against Barca – especailly if he gets a chance to kick the fck out of Xavi 😉

it’s called a bidding war. it would be stupid for barcelona to automatically pay full price for a player they offered full price for last year, before he got a reoccurring injury. so how about you piss off with your unwarranted attitude. and to shedzy, xavi said nothing disrespectful so why the hell would you wish violence on him? are you a violent person? is that how you like to define yourself?

      July 22, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Full price? If Phil Jones is worth 20 million I would argue that 27 or 31 million is no where near enough for Fabregas. It’s not a bidding war if only one team is bidding! Barca are offering that low a figure as they know he will not go anywhere else and that he wants to go. Xavi told the press that Fabregas is suffering as he wants to leave. That is disrespectful to arsenal as it makes us appear to be criminals holding him against his will, he is under contract with Arsenal and until Barcelona offer an amount reflecting the current market value of a player with Cesc’s ability and potential ( he is still only 24!) I am not a violent person however if I met Xavi in the street i’d kick him in the face.

The FC in Arsenal FC now stands for Failure and Confusion:
    Failure to sign Jagielka
Failure to bid for Samba and Cahill
Failure to sign the 19 year old Costa Rican
Failure to retain Cesc and Nasri
Failure to sell the deadwood – Eboue, Diaby, Denilson, Rocisky, Asharvin, Alumunia, Squillach, Vela
Confused about the need to get a holding midfielder
Confused about Gibbs’s ability, clearly not ready to be our leftback
Confused about the need to get all deals finished now to allow for the squad to be ready for the new season.
This failure and confusion must be brough to an end.
Get rid of the board and Wenger or Silent Stan should sell to someone interested in success.

Wenger will be making the same mistake getting Ribery as he did with Silvester. Yeah he hit it off with Overmaars but lightning doesn’t twice or very often.
Likewise he should shore up the defence. I will be very amazed if he doesn’t get a central cd.Then it will back to square one.

My main concern is the length of time it’s taking to sign any players.. It’s not just signing a player, it’s the length of time it will take these players to settle at the club and get to know the squad in training etc. Kick-off is next month right!! Arsene needs to stop bidding A quarter of what the clubs r asking and be more realistic with his bids. Arsene has been stifling himself for the last 5-6 years by not buying right players at the right time instead of settling for the cheap option all the time. They turn into good players but the proof of the pudding is none of these players in the last 6 years have helped us win the title. Wenger has been great at making the club money on low investment, but we need that little extra to make a title push, like another 4 top class players.

Wenger to sign Gary Cahill and Franck Ribery? Pleeeeeeeeeaase, if this is not another piece of fiction then today isn’t April fools’ day. On the contrary, this is the typical smokescreen/ red herring that Wenger and Co have applied every summer since 2005. It’s a ploy to shake-off fans’ pressure until the transfer window slams-shut without quality squad re-inforcements. Inceidentally why are these “stars” still at Arsenal FC: Manuel Almunia, Nicky Bendtner, Tom Rosicy, Manu Eboue, Carlos Vela and Seb Squillaci? I am sweating “blood” over the prospect of such guys pulling-on the red/white again.
