Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Everton’s Mikel Arteta, according to reports.
Several media outlets, including Sky Sports News, have suggested the Gunners had submitted a £10m bid for the player that was initially rejected by the Toffee’s. But it seems they may now be prepared to do business and have allowed the player to speak with Arsenal about a proposed transfer.
A potential replacement for Arteta has already been lined up, with Real Madrid’s Drenthe on the way to Merseyside to discuss a move.
***UPDATE*** Widespread reports say the deal has broken down, and Arsenal have now switched their attention to Yossi Benayoun.

He would be a great signing, with the other additions already in place a creative midfielder was the only other urgent requirement and he fits the bill very well, experienced in the PL so will slot straight in and plays the Arsenal way. From the very low point of Sunday we are now looking to be set for the season but why oh why has Arsene left it so late when everyone knew where we needed strengthening and a few early purchases would have avoided the weekends disaster.
Deal now off according to sky sports news at 7.15 deal was called off. Now who. Eden Hazard we want.
It is a nice buy for arsenal .
I as an arsenal fan av apreciated the efforts that the club as made to sign players. Let not this be the trend of signing the player at the elevnt our as if the money was not available. Cos this as caused the club loose clucial points.
we should try and sign arteta, becourse is a kind of midfild we need to replace fabrigas, do it noun or end season with no hope of winning any silver wear, no time, noun or never. One love
hazard and m’vila. that is all we need…
