Juan Mata Hits Back At Redknapp Claims

By on September 19, 2011

Juan Mata has denied Harry Redknapp’s claims that his move to Chelsea was financially motivated.

The Spurs boss admits they made a move for the Spaniard but concedes the club stood no chance after Chelsea declared their interest in signing the 23-year old. Redknapp said recently:

“We were in for Mata and close to doing a deal. But he didn’t come and Chelsea came in. Obviously they can blow you out of the water wages-wise, and then he changed his mind and they got him. It’s all about wages.”

However, Mata denies those claims.

“That’s not strictly true,” said Mata. “You can’t believe everything you read.

“The Chelsea offer was very important to me and the only one that was worth considering. I just thought it would give me the opportunity to grow as part of a big club.

“Ever since I was a young boy I have been interested in the English league and Chelsea.

“I have always understood the importance of the teams that were fighting for Premier League titles.”

Chelsea are notoriously known for their excessive wage bill, with the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba on wages in excess of £120,000 a week.

“That’s not strictly true” suggests that it is in part truth… Another liar to add to the army of dumb**** footballers….

You were 100 % on your comments about rich club’s Harry. Chelsea is one of them responsible for ruining the football transfer market by offering high price’s & salary.I dont hold high hopes for them challenging for the league nor the FA Cup, judging from Sunday’s performance against MANU.You can also go nowhere by spending big!

Why wouldn’t he join Chelsea over Spurs, regardless of money? What could Spurs possibly offer on a footballing level that Chelsea couldn’t? Better facilities, teammates, infrastructure and trophy opportunities await over Spurs. When Spurs finish above Chelsea and challenge for the Champions League it will be a valid point.

Let me translate that for you:

I dont know why the spurs manager hates chelsea to this extent.

      Now let me retort:

He hardly hates chelsea, he was simply putting forward the fact that Tottenham cant compete with them in terms of wages. Ridiculous comment, get out!

Which good player will choose totteham for chelsea when they don’t want their players to leave for another club and above all no trophy hope, no money, no better facilities. Rednap should relax and thinking on how to imprv his team

When you were a kid Chelsea were not a big club and the only reason they are now is because of the plastics that have jumped on the bandwagon in recent years. Put it this way if Chelsea ever got relegated their attendances would be less than West hams!

Coming from a club that cant sell all it,s tickets each game and has to advertise them on Capital radio and even give them away to get bums on seats would suggest you are a rich mans toy. Before the money you were nobodies you aint much now and when he goes with his wallet you will return to the who? club.

That’s just not true. Mata is 23 years old. When he was 10 Chelsea won the FA Cup and the European Cup Winners Cup with Zola, Vialli etc. and through his teenage years Chelsea were never out of the top 6.

Now Spurs on the other hand, unless you were about 40 you would never have heard of London’s 4th club.

1- its widely noted he is on 100,000 a week. Spurs and arsenal would not match that. 2- Spurs offered 16m, moneybags chelsea offered 23m. 3- Chelsea are not a big club, to be one you have to be successful throughout your history. Chelsea are an average club (without there recent success they would be on level parr with Fulham) with lots of money that they brought there status and success with. Any club (man city) can buy success and trophys with money. An if roman hadn’t arrived chelsea could of well gone bust 4- When he was a boy he would have seen man utd and arsenal not chelsea. 5- Arsenal offered him a contract on less money. 6- He always mentioned arsenal as the club he felt most connected with. 7- If that’s the case he signed for Chelsea for a higher wage and because a bigger bid was accepted.

Chelsea never had and never will have better facilities than Spurs, next year Spurs will have one of the best football training facilities anywhere in the world, 3 years time they will also have one of the best CLUB OWNED football stadiums in the world..in football I always took my hat off to man united because what they achieved was not done by throwing money into playing staff, including old trafford everything was built by planning, organization and picking right people to run and manage the club..Chelsea can win 10 titles but will never be given any credit by any football fans, their titles are bought not earned..Spurs now have the same mentality as man. United despite set backs they are building a team and a club that will eventually will play for titles , chelsea rellies on Russian mafias money, as a club chelsea is simply used to launder money, a bit like a whore in footballing world..Spurs will get the upper hand within the next two seasons and will never look back..abramovic put himself into world map and achieved what he aimed at, he will lose interest eventually specially when new UEFA ruling is established properly.

You have two choices. Do you work for company A and earn £50 grand or do you work for company B and earn £100 grand. You work for company B. Why do all footballers, with the exception of BAE, tell such obvious lies about the importance of ‘winning things, and playing champions league.’ From what I can see only ONE team gets to win the Premiership each season, and the champions league is full of utter toss teams for the first 6 matches and then you get tipped on your butt by Barca/ Real.

Footballers are mercenaries who do not give 100% to their job, just like none of us will go to work today and think, “I will REALLY put in everything I have got today.” Get over it Mata. you chose the money, so would I, so would ANYONE. It doesn’t make you a tosser, it makes you a human. Give it up.

And Chelsea fans, I met the first team recently and only Drogba and Cole have a decent human bone in their bodies. The rest of your team are classless clowns.

Whether it’s a matter of high wages or not i think harry is just jealous of the guy.i dont think tottenham can offer dis guy champions league football for 3 years to come.why did arteta left everton? Why modric insistence on leaving? All players wants to play at highest level,so harry shud mind his biz.

Why would Harry Redknapp be jealous of a 20 something year old player? For his youth? Mata and Levy were all but signed off on him coming to Spurs and then he changed his mind right at the last minute. Read the press it’s all in there. If anything, Redknapp is peed off with Mata for being such a pain in the neck. And anyway, lucky escape for Spurs as he is a poor player who needs to play behind a striker. He is another player like Del Horno in that he is too expensive and too crap. How much was Del Hornio again? 17 million for about 4 minutes… And Arteta left Everton after YEARS of being too good for the players around him. He wanted a final chance at something, ie some European nights. I believe him when he says that. Modric was offered TREBLE wages. Of course he wanted to go. Why not just say “I want the blooming money,” instead of all this glory nonsense they spout about? I personally reckon Modric realises he isn’t worth 40 million and was trying to get the move before Chelsea figured out what a huckster he is.
