Redknapp: “Big Clubs Can’t Just Buy Who They Want From Spurs”

By on September 19, 2011

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits chairman Daniel Levy sent out a message over their stance with Luka Modric.

Chelsea had three bids turned down for the playmaker which included a £40million deadline day offer. Despite admitting he wanted to join Chelsea, Redknapp admits Modric has been a true professional over the summer speculation and insists the Croatian is training hard.

“In not selling Luka, chairman Daniel Levy made a statement, I think, that big clubs can’t just call up Tottenham and buy who they want,” Redknapp told the Mail on Sunday.

“It was a hard pre-season. We had a lot of players who didn’t want to be here, like Alan Hutton, Peter Crouch, Robbie Keane, Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacios, as they couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Then Luka wanted to leave for Chelsea.

“I told the chairman that there was a mood around the place that I didn’t like. There’s nothing worse than having two or three you don’t want to see in the morning, it makes your job difficult, doesn’t it?

“But I understood the position of the lads who have gone. Luka, though, is a boy I look forward to seeing every day. All right, he didn’t want to play against Manchester United at the start of the season, but I think maybe others were controlling him.

“Yet he was never a disruptive influence; he trained hard every day, and there’s nothing cocky or nasty about him. He’s just a fantastic footballer, a massive influence for us; and you never have to worry where he is on a Saturday night after a game. I believe the chairman plans, quite soon, to sit down and discuss a new contract with Luka.”

Modric scored a spectacular goal in Tottenham’s 4-0 victory over Liverpool yesterday.

The ManU/Chelsea results could have some influence to change Modric’s mind for the future!

It doesnt matter what Modric thinks! Levy wont sell him to Chelsea full stop.
If he is sold isa couple of years it will be to a huge club like Barce, Mardid, or Milans, Chelsea only have Romans money, they are no bigger than Wet spam and there titles are all build on false accounting due to the massive loss they make every season.

Sit with Modric en Levy, disccuss your news offers and maybe you’l succeed but you’l never sit down with Levy, plot on how to win any trophy en succeed so long as Levy is still the chairman en you’re his coach. Hard stance in football market doesn’t only mean wisdöm, it can also mean arrogance, ignorance, foolishness or selfishness.

      haha true.

So amazing how people from north london can actually spell and put sentences together, but the ones in chelsea are completely retarded. Its like a linear scale, as you get closer to chelsea, words become progressively difficult! quite funny from the prospective of a northern irish man! I thought we spoke strangely!
