Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Kenny Identifies £10m Leiva Replacement

By on December 2, 2011

Liverpool have identified FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer as a replacement for the injured Lucas Leiva, according to reports today.

Leiva has become a key member of the Liverpool midfield during the last 18 months but has been cruelly ruled out for the remainder of the season after injuring ligaments in his knee during the 2-0 defeat of Chelsea on Tuesday. This has forced Kenny Dalglish into quickly finding a suitable replacement, and reports have suggested Fer high on his wish-list.

The Reds have been tracking the 21-year-old for some time now but will step up their interest by making a move in January. The Dutch international is a versatile defensive minded player, who can play in defence or in midfield.

Having only joined Twente in the summer in a £5m switch from Feyenoord, it may take some negotiating to persuade the Eredivisie outfit into selling, but it’s thought a bid of around £10m may temp them.
