Lukas Podolski Arsenal Deal Finally Signed-Off By Cologne – Report

Lukas Podolski’s much-anticipated move to Arsenal seems to have finally been signed off by current club Cologne, according to the Metro.

The news outlet cite sources from Germany, who claim Cologne have now rubber-stamped the transfer with the 26-year-old striker joining the Gunners for just under £10m, although the fee could rise significantly depending on factors such as appearances and trophies won.

Arsenal were reported to have tried to sign the hitman in January, but the player was unwilling to put his place in the German national team at risk ahead of this summers European Championships, so elected to remain in his homeland.

But it now seems as though Arsene Wenger has finally got his man. It’s unclear as to when the transfer will be officially announced by all parties, with Cologne currently in the middle of a relegation dog-fight in the Bundesliga, club officials are understandably being cautious about upsetting their fans further by announcing the departure of their star player.

Arsene Wenger has previously admitting to his interest in Podolski, with the Metro quoting him as saying:

‘Yes [we want Podolski],’ said Wenger.

‘We want to add some offensive strikers, because many times people say we rely too much on Van Persie, which is true, but if we can find world-class players, we will [challenge for the title].’

I, like many fans, refuse to believe transfer stories until they are officially announced but with all the various reports in recent weeks, i think it’s safe to say this one is as close to a ‘done deal’ as you can get. Personally, i think it’s a great signing and although perhaps it’s 12 months too late in my eyes, he will be a real asset next season.

I’m just hoping he’s playing alongside Van Persie and not deemed his replacement!

We thank God for this.but never say Never, looking at Mata’s case at the begining of the season.I will be amazed it could be a reality…I also deem it fit if he is not snatched before the end of next transfer becouse of Arsenes selfishness and relunctantacy to be prudent in spending.
