Arsenal are set to launch a move for highly-rated Southampton left back Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Mail.

The talented 17-year-old defender broke into the Saints first team last season, making his debut in January’s FA Cup tie against Millwall and is expected to make an impression in the Premier League this season after their promotion from the championship last term.

The Daily Mail claim Chelsea had a £4m bid for the starlet rejected earlier this summer, but now Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to test Southampton’s resolve with an improved package after having the player scouted on several occasions including Sunday’s friendly defeat to Ajax.

Wenger has close ties with the South coast club after taking both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from St Mary’s in recent years, and is hoping to use that strong relationship to negotiate a deal for Shaw.

The youngster has come through the Saints academy system and has already represented England at under-16 and under-17 level, and could be set to follow Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain in making the move to the Emirates.

However, European champions Chelsea could yet reignite their interest and come back in for Shaw, with Roberto Di Matteo keen to add more youth to his squad this summer.

Old news and non-news rehash. Shaw has just signed a new contract and is breaking into our first team. Adkins has said he’s not for sale. Go somewhere else. We’re no longer a nursery club for your team of no-hope title chasers

I guess Deejay is another of those ‘glory hunters’. Shaw isn’t going anywhere, he is a quality prospect who wants to part of a quality forward thinking and emerging team! Certainly not a Chelsea team whereby he’ll sit there watching a bunch of overrated foreigners!

At the moment my interest lies with the first team squad and who is going to leave the 25 to make room for new signings. whilst i have an interest in the reserves and youth right now the priority has to be the first team and how we are going to address our problems particularly in defence.
