Arsenal Told To Pay £40m For Ganso

By on August 2, 2012

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Santos have named their price for Ganso.

Ganso

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has insisted the club wont sell midfielder Ganso unless his £40m buy-out clause is met, according to Sky Sports News.

Ganso has been touted for a move this summer after falling out with Santos, and the players agent has previously declared his client would never play for the club again.

Premier League side Arsenal and Brazilian outfit Internacional have been strongly linked with a move for the 22-year-old this summer, and while Ribeiro has confirmed the player can leave, he will only do so if his buy-out clause is met.

“Bring the offers, but we won’t accept anything less than his buy-out fee,”

“The player’s will always has to come first. It’s pointless to keep an unhappy player. I always respect the player’s will. I did that regarding Wesley, Andre, Jonathan, but Santos’ rights have to be respected, as per the contracts that were signed.”

“The concrete fact is that he has a contract and a buy-out fee,” he continued.

“If he doesn’t cancel his contract, he has to play. And if he doesn’t play well, he’ll be benched.

“And if he’s benched, he’ll never leave, he’ll have to stay until 2015 [when his contract expires].”

The midfielder has been criticised by some sections of the Santos support for his performances last season, but Ribeiro believes its simply a case of the player gaining match fitness.

“A large part of the fanbase isn’t happy with his performances. I’ve talked with Muricy Ramalho [team’s manager] about this,” he said.

“He believes there is a physical problem. Ganso had a surgery and isn’t playing on a regular basis, so has to do muscle strengthening. Sooner or later he’ll be playing football again. I don’t know if it will be in a month or two.”

Ganso is currently in the UK with the Brazilian squad competing in this summers Olympic Games and is expected to sort out his future once the tournament finishes.

While Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ganso in the media, Arsene Wenger is highly unlikely to splash the £40m Sky Sports claim it will take to trigger the player release-clause. Especially given the fact the club is thought to be on the verge of signing Santi Cazorla.

Should the Spaniard complete his move to the Emirates, i would suggest that would all but end Arsenal’s interest in Ganso.

denilson was a great player…its wnger’s fault for playing him out of position all the time.
look at arshavin he is not a winger, he like playing behind the striker he does it well for his country

Spot on. Denilson captained Brazil Juniors … so he can’t have been no good. He played as an advanced sweeper. He never was a defensive midfielder in front of the back 4. That was AW’s notion and it failed.

But anway if they want that sort of money for Ganso … they can keep him.

No arshavin played on the left of an attacking three….the same as at arsenal.

His problem is he gives the ball away cheaply…do u not remember him doing it for russia at the euros?? funny enough they then conceeded and got put out!!

And denilson is terrible…many players have done well at youth level and not made it.

          To name but a few…
          Ryan babel
          royston drente
          sinama-pongolle
          aliadierre
          carlos vela

Had anyone heard of this guy before June? There is no way on Earth that Wenger will or should pay £40m for him! Cazorla and Sahin will do very nicely thank you.

Another overrated Brazilian player they just don’t develop them like they used too!!! Nothing really special about Ganso noway anyone will pay 40 mil. Brazilians have a habit of overrating their players and there fewer and fewer Brazilians making it on the big European stage, the numbers are decreasing the quality of their football is decreasing so they have resort to great marketing instead of great development.

Have you ever considered that maybe fewer brazilians are going to Europe simply because they (brazilian clubs) are managing to keep them?

This tells us that Santos are open to selling Ganso. I like him. He is a very skillful player up there with the berkamps and Henry but he is not worth the 40million buy out. The reason why is that he has bouts of injuries. If you gonna pay this kind of money, you are looking for players that play week in week out in the mould of Cristian Ronaldo or Leo Messi. Ganso has the skills and intelligence to unlock defences easy because he has good power and is the perfect player we need playing just behind the strikers.
I see Ganso’s potential as Fabregas mark 2 only twice and three times better.
Go for him Arsenal and I would be one appy gooner!

Never gonna happen, too expensive plus Cazorla & Sahin are very close to being done deals, especially Cazorla. Think the Cazorla deal will be confirmed today or Monday.

sick and tired of Brazilians being that expensive, we all know once they reach 27 they become lazy and become greedy by the age of 24, then screw up their career by moving to a big money teams like r madrid, 40 mill for a person who never left brazil, bunch of hustlers

Yeah, 40m too much. I think arsenal have been sitting on a lot of money accumulated over the last few seasons. They have sold big players but spent maybe half in that time and have been wondering when arsene was gonna open chq book. This is money aside from funds used to pay off stadium. Think as far and further back. Sales of toure and adebayor 40m and we spent 10m. Fab and nasri 50m+, sale of Henry and hleb 28m among others that’s over 100m brought in. Maybe they are dipping into transfer funds now and where just waiting cause in previous summers they have been so tight. Keep spending on quality this summer arsene. I think for arsenal 20m would be about wengers limit on one player, wouldn’t spend more than that and I agree. Nowadays they have to be careful with money put aside for players wages. Man city and Chelsea will have real problems in this area as players wont want to leave as no other club will pay 165k+ a week in player wages.
