Arsenal have announced on Arsenal.com the sale of midfielder Alex Song to Barcelona.

Speculation has been rife linking the Cameroonian midfielder with a move to the Spanish giants in recent weeks, with new Barca manager Tito Vilanova looking for a replacement for the departed Seydou Keita.

The Catalans were understood to be in London last week to enter formal negotiations and it seems that trip has paid off as Arsenal confirmed the deal after todays 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

A statement on Arsenal.com read:

“Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Alex Song to Barcelona.

Song will now travel to the Catalan club to agree personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of the proposed move.”

Barcelona have also confirmed the deal on their official website, claiming they will pay €19m for the 24-year-old – who will sign a five-year deal and have an €80m release clause in his contract.

Song is now due in Spain for a medical on Monday and will be official presented as a Barcelona player at the Gamper Cup.

Agreed, selling RVP is one thing as long as the rest of the team is intact but this is horrible, sell a defender and you will have eliminated the spne of our team. How do they allow this? there better be a back up plan and a good one at that. if we had kept Song and added Corzola things would be different.

For me it’s the last straw Rvp was bad but song as well just crazy. This plague that is now running our club needs to be stamped out with a big Russian boot. Every penny of my ticket today has gone over to the USA to make him richer and he gives us nothing. What r u doing to our club go back to the USA and play soccer leave English football to people who love the game not the money

Y we wenger alway sell our best players every season? Selling RVP to united is one biggest mistake we ever make, but selling song is the most stupid and crazy thing wenger as ever make, we can never competit or win any throphy as along as wenger keep selling our best players every season, y must we sell our most experience players? If arsenal sell song we will never be able to replace him this season or next two season

If Walcott goes too, I believed AW is an oracle. I mean, to forecast the departures by buying beforehand players who play at near exact positions to those that left….Giroud (RvP), Song (Cazorla), Podolski (Walcott)….
