Chelsea Transfer News: Spaniard Finally Set To Complete Move
Chelsea are set to complete the signing of right back Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille, according to the Mirror.
The Blues have been tracking the Spanish defender for months but finally are set to conclude a £7m deal this week.
Azpilicueta said goodbye to his team mates and the Marseille fans following Sunday’s 2-0 win over Sochaux and his agents are now due to fly to London to put the finishing touches on the move.
After the game the player had his say on the move, claiming his sale will help ease Marseille’s financial difficulties before thanking the fans for their support:
“Everyone thinks it’s been a tough time for me with my thoughts spilt between Marseille and Chelsea,”
“If my departure can help Marseille’s finances, then it is a good deal for everyone concerned.
“I thank the club’s fans for their standing ovation. They have always been good to me to me, even when things haven’t gone well.”
Azpilicueta is quoted as saying by the Mirror
Blues boss Roberto di Matteo has been desperately searching for a new right back this summer following the departure of Jose Bosingwa and it seems he’s finally got his man in the form of Azpilicueta.
The 22-year-old will compete with Branislav Ivanovic for the right back position, but he may have his work cut out to replace the Serbian after his impressive goal-scoring display against Wigan on Sunday.
