Chelsea are set to miss out on striker Radamel Falcao after refusing to meet the players £48m buy-out clause, according to the Daily Star.

The 26-year-old has forged a reputation as one of the world’s most devastating strikers after scoring an impressive 48 goals in 57 games for Atletico, including 12 in his last seven games.

This form has lead to interest from a whole host of top clubs throughout Europe, who are thought to be lining up a January bid.

European champions Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the Columbian hitman but the Star claims owner Roman Abramovich is only willing to pay £40m for the former Porto man.

While Madrid are resigned to losing Falcao when the window re-opens they are refusing to do business for anything less than the £48m buy-out clause in the players contract, despite the clubs difficult financial situation.

Chelsea are desperate to add a world class striker to their ranks as Fernando Torres continues to struggle for form. The Spaniard put in another below-par performance against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday and was hauled off after 70 minutes.

The former Liverpool striker has managed just 18 goals in 81 games since making a £50m move from Anfield in 2011.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo only has Daniel Sturridge as back up and has placed Falcao at the top of his wish-list for reinforcements, but unless Abramovich stumps up the full £48m it looks like the Londoners will miss out.

Mega-rich French outfit PSG are now considered the new favourites to land Falcao but Manchester City are also thought to be monitoring his situation.

Chelsea make sure U̶̲̥̅̊ don’t miss out on falcao cos torres will not be able τ̲̅õ̸̳͡ deliver and also defend τ̣̣ђё champions league and win τ̣̣ђё barclays premier league.

U̶̲̥̅̊ should neva depend on torres. If falcao is bought he’s eligible τ̲̅õ̸̳͡ participate in  champions league cos his club didn’t qualify for τ̣̣ђё champions league tournament. Imagine  combination with τ̣̣ђё likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata and Ramadel Falcao. Woow dat will be really great.

He is indeed a very good player, and will definatelly solve our striking problem, but his price tag is too high for us. Unless we offload Sturidge to part finance the project then fine we can get him

Staford bridge is the best destination for Falcao, if u look @ it very critically, so i dnt think chelsea can afford to miss him, had it been we hv someone like Falcao, sky could hv been our stepping stone in past games, so chelsea owner, RDM and chelsea officials should hurry-up coz Torres is no where to be found

The owner of chelsea,RDM and chelsea officials should hv it @ the back of their mind that we dont hv any striker now, so they should do anything to get Falcao coz if u depend on Torres then forget about any ttitle this season. No sentiment

I don’ t see why Abramovich is hesitant to pay €48 million for Falcao and bring him to Chelsea. He paid €50 mil for Torres while Drogba was still there, look at what a flop he turned out to be. If he wants a chance of repeating in the Champions league, the FA cup and winning the Premiere league he better come out with the bottom €8 mil and get Falcao at Stampford bridge.

Critically, examining d matches played soo far, we’v been having a good and flexible game and d players are gettn used too eachoda and gettn d game goin but their’s lack of firepower in the attack which was as a result of torres bad form. Inother for cfc to claim any title this season, we need d likes of falcao upfront else,RDM and RAM should forget any cup…torres is out of form and needs a replacement. A word is enough for the wise.
