Santos Doesn’t Want Arsenal Return

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Andre Santos wants to join Gremio permanently.

Andre Santos Arsenal

Out-of-favour Arsenal defender Andre Santos has admitted he wants to make his loan move to Gremio permanent this summer instead of returning to the Emirates, according to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian full-back signed for Arsenal in August 2011 from Turkish outfit Fenerbache but has been largely disappointing during his time in north London and was sent out on loan in January for the second half of the season after making just 8 appearances this campaign.

The move back to Brazil was initially seen as a way for Santos to regain some form and fitness before returning to the Emirates but it seems the 30-year-old is keen to make the move to Gremio a permanent one this summer:

“I’ll do my best to win titles. I have won titles at every club I have played for.

“The staff, board and the players have all made me feel very welcome. There is no doubt that I want to stay.” Santos is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Arsene Wenger signed Nacho Monreal from Malaga to replace the beleaguered Santos in January and with Kieran Gibbs also on the books, it’s difficult to see where the Brazilian would fit in if he does return in the summer.

A permanent move away from the club would be best for all parties as Santos is clearly not suited to Premier League football. His fitness was obviously lacking during his time with the club and he simply didn’t have what it takes to be a top class full-back. Hopefully we can come to an agreement with Gremio at the end of the season.

really hope that our brazilian duo santos and denilson are at the front of the taxi queue this summer. swiftly followed by bendtner park djourou chamakh squillaci arshavin and the injury proned diaby and rosicky. we have carried these type of players far too long and covered their horrendous wages. to be honest i wouldnt end there but i fear that if we allow sagna fabianski mannone and gervinho to leave it might just be too many at once. we will already see the likes of eastmond watt shea boateng galindo and henderson join them so could see in excess of 20 players leave the club inone window. that is one hell of a lot
