Manchester United are in the capital this weekend to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium ready to play their first match since being crowned as Premier League champions.

Ahead of the game, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update with the latest on Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Michael Carrick, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Ferguson confirmed he’s likely to shuffle his pack for the trip to north London with Ferdinand and Vidic set to be recalled to the centre of defence. Ferdinand was rested for the win over Aston Villa while Vidic missed out through injury, but with Jonny Evans picking up a knock on Sunday the experienced duo are set to be reunited at the back with Phil Jones moving into midfield.

Fergie also revealed that midfielder Carrick played through a minor injury against the Villains and hinted he’s ready to give the likes of Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Tom Cleverley and Nani more playing time over the next few weeks after securing United’s 20th league title.

Here’s what Ferguson told the clubs official website:

“Two of the players played with an injury throughout the [Villa] game, Jonny Evans and Michael Carrick. Next week, I should have Vida and Rio back and I can put Jones into the middle of the pitch and play Vida and Rio together and we’ll get the experience going to Arsenal.

“A lot of younger players, the ones who have been on the fringes for the last few weeks, and I desperately want them to feel their contribution has been big. Chicharito, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Nani – I think it’s important to get them involved in the last few weeks.”

Paul Scholes could also return to take part in the run-in while Ferguson took the time to praise 39-year-old Giggs – who he feels could carry on for another two years. He continued:

“Hopefully, we will have Paul Scholes fit in the next couple of weeks because he deserves to play in the last few games.

“Ryan is struggling isn’t he? He’s unbelievable with his energy. He’s a freak – a unique freak! I tell you he can play for another two years, trust me.”
