Chelsea Reject Liverpool Move For Bertrand With Defender Ready To Fight For Future

Ryan Bertrand has played down talk linking him with a move away from Chelsea insisting he has no plans to quit the club amid reported interest from Liverpool.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Ryan Bertrand is willing to stay at Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports, Ryan Bertrand has played down talk linking him with a move away from Chelsea insisting he has no plans to quit Stamford Bridge amid reported interest from Liverpool.

Reports over the weekend claimed that Chelsea had rejected an approach from Liverpool for the 23-year-old with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers seemingly keen to bring in some competition for Jose Enrique at left-back.

However, Bertrand has told reporters that his main aim is to Chelsea’s first-choice and he’s willing to bide his time in order for that to happen:

“Obviously I want to be Chelsea’s No1 left-back, and when that time comes it will happen.” Bertrand told Sky Sports

The England international is looking to fight Ashley Cole for a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI next season. Cole will be 33 years old next December, but age doesn’t seem to be an issue for the full-back as he featured in 51 games last season with the Blues.

In the past few years, Ryan Bertrand has spent most of his times away from west London on loan. Since 2006, the player has played for Bournemouth, Oldham Athletic, Norwich City, Reading and Nottingham Forest all on a temporary contract.

Currently, Bertrand looks to be settled in London as he spent the last three years playing for the Blues. He has featured in half of Chelsea’s league games last season and also started the Champions League Final in Munich in 2012. Ryan Bertrand also said:

“I have been on loan four or five times but then there comes a time when you have to say, right, I am going to spend some time back at the club and see what happens.”

Bertrand has been described by his former manager Glenn Roeder as a defender who “likes to bomb forward and is tenacious in the tackle” when defending. He is a capable player and he will look to engage a serious fight with Ashley Cole next season for a place in Chelsea’s line-up.
