Arsenal Linked With £40m Benzema Bid As Liverpool Rule Out Suarez Sale
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up an audacious £40m bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema after Liverpool made it clear they wont sell Luis Suarez.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal turn their attention to Benzema?
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up an audacious £40m bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema after Liverpool made it clear they wont sell Luis Suarez this summer, according to French publication LE10 Sport.
After seeing two bids rejected by the Merseysiders, Liverpool owner J.W.Henry stated in an interview with the Guardian on Thursday night that he has personally informed Ivan Gazidis they will not sell Suarez at any price this summer.
With his pursuit of the Uruguayan seemingly hitting a dead end, LE10 Sport claim the Gunners boss is now eyeing a bold move for Madrid striker Benzema and has instructed the Arsenal board to go in with an opening £40m bid as he desperately tries to save Arsenal’s summer with a marquee signing before the transfer window closes in just over 3 weeks time.
While on the face of it, any move for Benzema appears a non-starter as it’s highly unlikely Madrid would sell another striker after letting Gonzalo Higuain join Napoli last month. However, the French newspaper claims that Benzema is believed to be looking for a new challenge after spending four years at the Bernabeu, so could be open to the idea of moving to the Emirates.
Personally, I just don’t see this happening but it would be an excellent signing if Arsenal could somehow pull it off. The 25-year-old has scored 87 goals in 183 appearances for Madrid since joining from Lyon and he would certainly be a player to get the Arsenal fans smiling again.
There is the possibility that Madrid could sell Benzema and use the money to make a move for Suarez, but it seems Liverpool are determined to hang on to the unsettled hitman this summer, so unless Carlo Ancelotti can line-up a replacement, I can’t see anything coming of this one unfortunately.
