Despite the summer transfer window recently closing there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, Man Utd will look to win the race to sign Southampton star Luke Shaw.

Manchester United are determined to beat rivals Arsenal and Chelsea to the signature of highly-rated Southampton teenager Luke Shaw, according to Goal.

The 18-year-old has become one of the hottest properties in the UK after breaking into the Saints first team aged just 16 and he’s gone on to become a regular at St Mary’s over the past 12 months as well as earn his first caps for the England Under-21’s squad.

His form has alerted some of the Premier League’s big-guns with reports claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all shown a keen interest in the youngster in recent months.

However, it’s the champions who appear determined to land the exciting left-back with Goal suggesting David Moyes wants to bring Shaw to Old Trafford as the long-term replacement for 32-year-old Patrice Evra following his failed attempt to land Leighton Baines from Everton in the summer.

Shaw signed a new five-year deal in July but the report claims this will simply ensure that Southampton will be able to demand a sizeable fee when they eventually sell – with the player now valued at around £12m – and United are understood to be confident they can beat Arsenal and Chelsea to secure an early deal ahead of a switch next summer.

Southampton have an excellent track record for producing star players with the likes of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all coming through their youth ranks in recent years before going on to make big-money moves, and it seems Shaw could be next to join that distinguished list.

More of the same gossip from tired hacks who can’t find anything original to write about. Manu et al won’t get Shaw for £12 million – Try £20 million for starters. And how come its only Southampton that produce the goods? What happened to Arse Wenger’s , Chelsea or Manu’s academy? Don’t they have any players. Or is that the only thing they know is that they have money to chuck at a deficit in their own academies. It would nice to see a club that develops its own players get the benefit of them
