As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Karim Benzema.

Arsenal will make a €37m bid for Karim Benzema after he represents Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League later this month with Arsene Wenger viewing the striker as his ‘ideal’ signing this summer, according to reports today.

Arsene is known to be a huge fan of Benzema’s and he failed with his latest attempt to sign the hitman last summer when Madrid refused to do business following the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli.

However, with the boss on the look-out for striking reinforcements this summer it looks as though he’s going to have another go at trying to land one of his long-term targets and he may have a bit more joy this time around.

Benzema has just one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu and the Telegraph claim Arsene views the Frenchman as his ideal signing and is ready to test Real’s resolve with a £30m bid after learning that the La Liga giants could be willing to cash-in rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.

The newspaper suggests that we’ll wait until after the Champions League final on May 24th before making our move but any potential deal could also hinge on whether Madrid are able to find a suitable replacement, with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez understood to be their top target.

The chances of Madrid luring the Uruguayan out of Anfield remain slim so understandably Arsene is also pursuing other targets in case Benzema stays, with Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic also believed to be under consideration.

We seem to be linked with Benzema practically every transfer window but I hope this is the time when we manage to finally sign the striker. It’s clear we need to add another front-man to the squad this summer and Benzema would be a superb addition.

The 26-year-old is coming into his prime years and has proven himself to be an excellent goal-scorer throughout his career. His stats at Madrid are impressive with 111 goals and 62 assists in his 233 games, while he also managed 66 goals in 148 for Lyon. Whether he’s able to cut it in the Premier League remains to be seen but with his pedigree, you’d have to think he’d be a success.

For me, Benzema has everything we need in a top quality striker. He has pace, power, is decent in the air, has a good touch, can link-up with others and he clearly knows where the goal is, so I’d love to see us bring him to the Emirates this summer.

Ideal signing at that price – he is not worth it for that money we can do better – Bring in balotelli – the mad man will definitely be a better bet than Benzema. Benzema is another who will simply not be tough enough for the hard physical battles fought in the premier league.
