Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to revive his interest in Real Madrid ace Sami Khedira and will test the Spaniard’s resolve with a €18.5m offer this summer, according to reports today.

We were linked with the German international back in the January transfer window and it’s understood we made informal enquiries about his availability but had to shelve any plans of a move due to a serious knee injury that saw him miss the majority of the second half of the season.

The 27-year-old only recently regained full fitness and with Xabi Alonso suspended, Carlo Ancelotti opted to start him in the Champions League final last night where he lasted 60 minutes before being replaced by Isco as Madrid went on to beat Atletico Madrid 4-1.

The Mirror claim that with just one year remaining on his current contract at the Bernabeu and no agreement found over an extension so far, Khedira could be available on the cheap and Arsene Wenger is going to test Madrid’s resolve with a €18.5m (£15m) offer this summer.

It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to persuade the newly-crowned European champions to cash-in, but they could be tempted if they don’t come to an agreement over a new deal as otherwise they’ll risk losing the midfielder for nothing in 12 months time.

It’s widely expected that Arsene will bring in defensive midfielder this summer as a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta and Khedira would be a superb signing in that department. He has vast experience at both club and international level, and has been selected in Joachim Loew’s provisional squad for the World Cup – despite his injury problems – which shows how highly he’s rated by the German boss.

It won’t be easy to lure him away from Real, but nobody would have thought a year ago that we’d have been able to sign Mesut Ozil, so you never know, we could pair the two former team mates together at the Emirates this summer.
