Liverpool ‘Give Up On Sanchez’ After Agents Confirm He’s Joining Arsenal

By on July 7, 2014

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, more on the future of Alexis Sanchez.

Liverpool have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Alexis Sanchez after being informed the Barcelona attacker has opted to join Arsenal, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Sanchez has been one of the most sought-after players so far this summer after Barca made it clear they were willing to let the Chilean international leave as he’s not considered an important part of new boss Luis Enrique’s first team next season.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been battling it out to convince the 25-year-old to come to the Premier League over Serie A champions Juventus – who have also been desperate to lure the attacker to Italy.

Some reports in recent days have suggested the player was leaning towards north London and it appears that’s now the case as the Liverpool Echo are claiming that Liverpool have been forced to end their pursuit of Sanchez after being informed he will be joining rivals Arsenal instead.

The newspaper suggests that both clubs met Barcelona’s £30m asking price but after contemplating his future over the weekend, Sanchez’s representatives told the Merseysiders today that the player and his family would prefer to live in London.

If this turns out to be the case, then it will be a major blow to Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers looks to try and rebuild his squad to cope with the imminent departure of star striker Luis Suarez – who is set to join Barcelona.

However, the signing of Sanchez will be a major coup for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and add a real goal threat to the north Londoners squad, as the he scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists last season. He’s also able to play out wide or through the middle – as he did for Chile to good effect at the World Cup – so he’ll provide Wenger with plenty of options in the final third next season.

We’ll have to see how this develops over the coming days but unless something drastic happen, all signs are pointing to Sanchez joining Arsenal this summer.

He doesn’t really want to join Arsenal, he just wants to live in London.

Got to agree with you there mate, don’t know why he’d go to us over Liverpool – based on last season anyway.

@Rh. Well Arsenal havent sold their best player and spent it on inexperienced/overpriced players, we have one of the most well regarded managers in the world (whether you think so or not), we are a stable and young team with a squad better than Liverpool’s anyday of the week. (you didnt see arsenal bring on players like aspas and moses as plan B last season even when we were going through an injury crisis), we always get into Europe, and we are based in London as you said. Not a filthy place like Liverpool, there is more than one reason.
@arsenalfan. Yes congratulations to them for managing to get into the top4 without having to worry about europe/extra matches and being carried by a player that is now gone. So use your brain. In my opinion Spurs are in a better situation than Liverpool now and thats coming from a Gooner

Why would he want to come to a club that’s won the champs league 5 times when he can move to arsenil who’ve won it a big fat 0

Yeah I also didn’t see Liverpool conceding 4 goals in 20 mins at Anfield last season like arsenal did you might want to get your short term memory checked out buddy as well as that big mouth small brain combo you’ve got going there.

And I didn’t see Arsenal get knocked out of the fa cup with sanogo playing upfront. Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez after years of selling our best players suggests we are on the way up. Selling your best player suggests your not. Do you think Saurez will reveal how he really feels about liverpool when he leaves for Barca?

We beat you twice last season

Once with our reserves against your first team, then we went on to lift cup. Did you lift one? But you got champ league footy finally! We have 17 years straight

It is truly a strange situation when Liverpool allow Suarez to go to Barcelona on a “cut-price” deal without insisting that one of their players (Sanchez) is part of the deal before it can be approved. The more I read about this transaction the more I think there is something rotten about it! – I sincerely hope the tax man has sharpened all his pencils.
To allow one of the top 3 players in the world to leave for a price below his release clause whilst the beneficial recipients allow one of their top players to join a BPL competitor is unexplainable. (Unless the press reports are very wrong)

JORDAN GOONEY Scouses like me work hard we also live in brick built houses and we don`t take fools lightly, and we will still be the most exciting team to watch next season with or without Suarez, or Sanchez, he may not wan`t to come to Liverpool but won`t he and his family regret that, because at LFC we appreciate our players unlike most Arsenal fans. At the end of the coming season I think he will wish he never signed for Arsenal and realise what a big mistake he`s made not moving to the premeire league winners. YNWFA.

    • Aaron

      July 8, 2014 at 12:44 am

lol you wont even get top 4 next season.
Signings or future signings you made:
      Lallana 20-25m
      Lambert 5m
      Origi- 10-15m
      Markovic- 18-23m
      Lovren- 20-25m
The ‘godlike’ BR surely knows that those players arent good enough to get top nevermind a league title right? You have gone backwards, face it. Unless you spend another 100m on top of the deadwood/mediocre players you already bought/are interested in

I find it amusing that Liverfool fans have one good maybe even great season (although they played a minimal amount of matches) and they are now England’s finest. The man was looking for a consistently good team with a great manager the fact London is one of the worlds finest cities is a bonus

Why would Sanchez go to LFC. They live in the past. Also Suarez wants to leave LFC as he is the only quality player they have.
Arsenal play good football, like barca. That’s why Suarez first wanted to go arsenal. Liverpool are useless. See you at barca

Didn’t see any scourers moaning when Liverpool put 4 passed arsenal in the first 20 mins in Anfield back in February saw a lot of gooners lookin for Wenger to be sacked as usual though who was moaning that day Bellends

          • rellends

            July 8, 2014 at 5:25 pm

Ray, that should be “past” and not “passed”. As I said to my Liverpool supporting mate that day “well played, we were abysmal, you were very good but in the end it was only 3 points”. That’s the problem with Liverpool fans – you’re caught in the PAST (Did you see what I did there?) – whether it’s last February, 2005 or the last time you won the Championship in 1990. If we are going to dredge up the PAST (hope you’re taking notes here) then what I will say is that I saw plenty of scousers moaning in the pubs around Liverpool on the night of 26/05/89.

Plus, is putting a B on the front of my pen name the best you can come up with? Scousers and the media are always telling us what a great sense of humour you’ve got. That’s a pretty poor effort really.
