Arsenal are closing in on a €15m deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot with the players agent arriving in London to finalise terms today, according to reports.

Rabiot is expected to leave the Parc des Prince this summer after failing to agree terms over a new deal and the player has even refused to turn up to training in recent days as he tries to force a move before the end of the month.

Arsenal and Chelsea have been strongly linked with the 19-year-old in recent weeks while Italian outfit Roma are also understood to have expressed an interest in luring the youngster to Serie A.

However, it appears the Gunners are now in pole position as reports in France claim Rabiot is now favouring a move to the Emirates after Arsene Wenger made a personal phone call to the player to convince him his future lay in North London.

Further reports in the Metro suggest that the midfielders agent – who is also his mother – arrived in London on Thursday morning to finalise the move after Rabiot provisionally accepted the terms of a long-term contract.

The newspaper states that Arsenal’s latest offer was of €15m (£12m) was submitted earlier this week and although PSG are yet to respond to the bid, it’s understood to be close to their asking price so a deal is now close to completion.

It’s unclear if Chelsea will make a late push to try and hijack Arsenal’s deal but as it stands it looks as though the Gunners are in the driving seat and could be set to seal their fifth major signing of the summer.

Rabiot has been with PSG since 2010 and is predominantly a defensive midfielder but can also play at centre-back, so he’ll fill two positions Wenger is keen to address before the close of the transfer window.
