Liverpool Eye Cut-Price Move For Brazilian Defender

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a move for Barcelona defender Adriano as the out-of-favour Brazilian looks set to consider his options this summer

The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Barcelona’s Adriano….

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a cut-price move for Barcelona defender Adriano as the out-of-favour Brazilian looks set to consider his options this summer, according to reports.

Adriano moved to the Nou Camp from Sevilla in 2010 and although he’s never been considered as a vital first team player, he has played over 30 games per season for the Catalans in each of the last four years he’s been at the club.

However, he’s struggled to establish himself under new boss Luis Enrique this campaign with the 30-year-old managing just 7 starts in all competitions, with most of those coming in the Copa deal Rey.

The lack of regular action has led to speculation linking Adriano with a move away from the club and the Brazilian international is expected to reassess his options at the end of the season with the Mirror claiming that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on his situation.

Adriano’s current contract runs until 2017 but despite his release clause being set at £15m, the newspaper suggests that Liverpool could snap him up for as little as £7m.

Brendan Rodgers already has plenty of options in the full-back positions but with Glen Johnson looking increasingly likely to leave this summer, the Northern Irishman has seemingly identified Adriano as a potential replacement.

The Brazilian is known for his versatility as although he’s predominantly used as a left-back, he’s also capable of operating at right-back or in midfield, so he’d certainly give Rodgers plenty of options if he was to make the move to Anfield.

I wouldn’t expect Adriano to be an automatic first choice at Liverpool but his experience would also be a valuable asset for the club, so I think it would be a shrewd piece of business from Rodgers if he was able to pull it off this summer.
