Chelsea Ready To Battle Manchester United For £15m Premier League Star
Chelsea are ready to head-to-head with Manchester United over the signing of £15m-rated Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne this summer, according to reports
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are to rival Manchester United for Nathan Clyne….
Chelsea are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United over the signing of £15m-rated Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne this summer, according to reports.
United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to have identified the right-back role as a priority position that he needs to strengthen this summer as Rafael has been plagued by injury so far this campaign while Antonio Valencia’s form has been inconsistent at best.
Several names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but the Mirror claim that van Gaal has made Clyne one of his top targets with the Dutch boss expected to continue splashing the cash this summer.
However, it looks like the Red Devils are going to face some stiff competition as the newspaper suggests that Chelsea have joined the race for the 23-year-old’s signature and are ready to make their move after sending scouts to keep a close eye on his progress this season.
Jose Mourinho already has two of the best right-backs in the league at his disposal in Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta – although he often plays at left-back – but it’s understood they want Clyne in order to help increase their home grown player quota.
The England international will enter the final year of his current contract this summer as his deal expires in 2016 so understandably Southampton are desperate to tie him down to an extension as soon as possible.
However, Clyne appears in no rush to commit his future to St Mary’s and looks set to assess his options at the end of the season, with two of the Premier League top clubs ready to try and lure him away.

Clyne would be an excellent signing for either club as he’s become a top class right-back over the last 18 months and at just 23, he’s got plenty of time to develop even further.
The Mirror claim that it will take £15m to sign him this summer and I think that would be an excellent piece of business for either United or Chelsea, so it’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up if he does leave the Saints.
