Liverpool Team News: Rodgers Confirms Fresh Injury Blow + Offers Gerrard Update
Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the fitness of Jordon Ibe and Steven Gerrard ahead of Liverpool’s game with Burnley on Wednesday night.
Liverpool will look to continue their excellent recent form when entertain Burnley at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the game, Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and gave Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.
Unfortunately, the Reds boss confirmed that Jordon Ibe is set for a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Besiktas last week.
The 19-year-old has played an important role in recent weeks since being recalled from his loan at Derby County but he was forced off late on during Liverpool’s Europa League defeat on Thursday and is now set for a spell on the sidelines.
Not only will Ibe miss Wednesday’s match with Burnley but he could also sit out upcoming games against Blackburn, Swansea and Manchester United.Rodgers told the clubs website:
“Jordon Ibe will probably be out for a few weeks,”
“He twisted his knee, laterally on the outside, in Turkey and had to come off towards the end. He has had a scan on that.
“It is not too serious but it’s probably just going to mean him out for a few weeks. We’ll probably have him back towards the end of March.”
While the news on Ibe will come as a blow, Rodgers did have more positive news regarding the fitness of Steven Gerrard with the skipper closing in on a comeback.
Gerrard has been on the sidelines since injuring his hamstring back on February 10th, but the Liverpool manager revealed that the midfielder is back working outside and should be available again soon.
Rodgers added:
“He’s coming along very well. He is building up strength in his hamstring and he has been outside, so he is working very hard. Hopefully in the very near future, he’ll be back and available.”
Liverpool go into the midweek fixtures sitting fifth in the Premier League table but just two points behind Manchester United following their win over Manchester City, so Rodgers will be desperate to collect another three points and maintain their push for the top four.
