Liverpool will be looking to continue their excellent recent form when they take on Burnley at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds head into the game as the Premier League in-form team having won eight of their last 10 games; a run which has seen them close in on the top four.

Brendan Rodgers side are sixth in the table but are just three points off third-placed Arsenal so the race for Champions League qualification looks set to go right down to the wire.

The Merseysiders will be expected to beat Burnley at home if they want to play in Europe’s elite competition next season but the visitors won’t heading to Anfield just to make up the numbers.

Sean Dyche’s men are win less in their last six games and find themselves 19th in the table and three points from safety, so they’ll be desperate to give their survival hopes a major boost with a positive result tonight.

Team news

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is back in training after a hamstring injury but this game is likely to come too soon, so Jordan Henderson is expected to continue alongside Joe Allen in midfield.

Jordon Ibe has been ruled out for a month after suffering a knee injury in the Europa League loss at Besiktas last week.

Defender Mamadou Sakho is back in training after recovering from a hip injury so he could come back in to the side in place of Dejan Lovren.

Burnley have no new injury worries to contend with but Matthew Taylor remains out with an Achilles injury while Dean Marney and Kevin Long aren’t expected to play again this season.

Liverpool 2-0 Burnley: Burnley pushed the Reds all the way in the reverse fixture at Turf Moor before narrowly losing 1-0 but I think Liverpool will find things a bit easier tonight. Rodgers side were superb against Man City at the weekend and if they play anywhere near to that level again, they’ll secure a comfortable win.
