Brazilian Ace ‘Proud’ Of Man Utd Links Amid Rumours Of €27m Move
Atletico Madrid defender Miranda is ‘proud’ of being linked with Manchester United amid rumours he could be set for a €27m move to Old Trafford this summer.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Miranda is pleased to be linked with Man Utd….
Atletico Madrid defender Miranda is ‘proud’ of being linked with Manchester United amid rumours he could be set for a €27m move to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.
Miranda has been a rock at the back for Atletico in recent years and has formed an excellent partnership alongside Diego Godin at the heart of their defence.
However, he’s about to enter the final year of his deal and with Jose Gimenez now emerging as a ready-made replacement, there has been talk that Diego Simeone is ready to cash-in on the Brazilian international.
United were strongly linked with a move for Miranda last summer before the player was persuaded to remain at the Vicente Calderon for at least another year, but speculation has once again suggested that Louis van Gaal is eyeing a €27m move for the 30-year-old.
Miranda has now spoken out about the rumours and although he says he’s proud to be linked with a club like United, he insists his only focus is Atletico Madrid. When asked about being linked with United, he told reporters:
“Of course this news reaches me, and it makes me happy. It shows I am doing well,”
“It makes me proud, but my intention is to stay at Atletico because I still have a year and a half on my contract.”
United are expected to sign at least one top class centre-back this summer and Miranda would bring with him a huge amount of experience if he was to make a move to Old Trafford.
However, the quoted price of €27m (£20m) that’s been suggested in the press seems a lot for a player who’s now the wrong side of 30 and who will have very little sell-on value, so I’d personally be surprised if van Gaal went ahead with any deal at that figure.

To me, it would make more sense to spend an extra €10m-€15m in order to land someone like Mats Hummels who is four years younger and is a better all-round defender, but we’ll have to see what United decide to do this summer.
