As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Manchester United step up their interest in Felipe Anderson….
Manchester United sent scouts to watch Felipe Anderson in action last week as Louis van Gaal eyes a move for the €40m-rated Chelsea target this summer, according to reports.
Anderson moved to Lazio from Santos in the summer of 2013 and has emerged as one of the hottest young forwards in European football this season with his 11 goals and 10 assists helping the club into second spot in the Serie A table.
His impressive displays have attracted interest from abroad with recent reports suggesting that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keen on luring him to England and is plotting a €40m (£30m) move for the Brazilian Under-21 attacker.
The Blues are understood to have sent scouts to watch Anderson in action on several occasions this season but it seems the newly-crowned Premier League champions are going to face stiff competition for his signature.
The Mirror are reporting today that Man Utd have also stepped up their interest in the 22-year-old with boss Louis van Gaal deploying his scouts to watch the youngster in action against Inter Milan last weekend.
United have already wrapped up a deal for Dutch sensational Memphis Depay but the newspaper suggests that van Gaal is looking to add even more pace and goal threat to his attack next season and is hoping to land Anderson ahead of rivals Chelsea this summer.
Lazio are desperate to keep hold of him as they get set to return to the Champions League next season and have already offered the Brazilian attacker a new five-year deal, but it remains to be seen how the Italians would react if the likes of United or Chelsea come in with a sizeable offer.
Anderson has predominantly been played as a left-sided attacking midfielder this season but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the front line so he’d give van Gaal or Mourinho plenty of options in attack if he did make the move to either club this summer.

However, even if they could persuade Lazio to cash-in, one potential stumbling block over any potential deal could be gaining a work permit as Anderson is yet to earn a single cap for the senior Brazilian side.
