Steven Gerrard will be hoping to sign off on a positive note in his final game for Liverpool when they take on Stoke City on Sunday. Here is the side I think Brendan Rodgers will pick:
Goalkeeper: Simon Mignolet is almost certain to remain between the sticks this weekend.
Defence: Rodgers reverted to a back three against Crystal Palace but I think we might see him go back to a flat back four away at Stoke to try and keep things a little tighter as they were cut open several times during the 3-1 loss last week.
Mamadou Sakho is back in full training after recovering from a hamstring injury so there’s a chance he could feature, but I don’t think Rodgers will risk him from the start, so Dejan Lovren should continue alongside Martin Skrtel at the back.
Alberto Moreno was recalled last time out and he should keep his place while Erme will also start on the opposite flank.
Midfield: Steven Gerrard is expected to captain Liverpool for the final time and it’s sure to be an emotional occasion for everyone associated with the club. The Reds skipper didn’t get the result he’d have wanted for at Anfield last week so he’ll be looking to end his career on a positive note this weekend.
Rodgers may recall Lucas Leiva to offer more solidity in front of the defence with Gerrard and Jordan Henderson operating just in front of the Brazilian.
Attack: Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out for at least four months so his season is over following hip surgery. Rickie Lambert could be brought in for his physical presence and to offer a focal point in attack against an imposing Stoke back-line.
All eyes will be on whether Raheem Sterling is selected after a tumultuous week with speculation growing over his future at the club. However, Rodgers insisted at his press conference this morning that the attacker is fit and available so we can only assume he’ll start.
Philippe Coutinho is also likely to keep his place but Jordon Ibe and Adam Lallan may drop to the bench. Mario Balotelli is unlikely to feature as he’s a doubt with an unspecified injury.
Here is how I think we’ll see Liverpool line-up:
What do you think? What line-up would you like to see start?
