Powerful Midfielder Confirms Desire To Join Arsenal
Victor Wanyama has been quoted in the press as saying he would be keen to join Arsenal this summer but acknowledges the decision is out of his hands.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Victor Wanyama admits he’s keen to join Arsenal….
Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has been quoted in the press as saying he would be keen to join Arsenal this summer but acknowledges the decision is out of his hands.
Wanyama has been linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few months after impressing for Southampton since joining the club from Scottish champions Celtic in 2013.
The 23-year-old was quoted in the newspapers back in April as saying that Arsene Wenger has made it known he’d like to sign him this summer and he misses playing in the Champions League:
Wanyama was quoted as telling the Sun:
“Wenger has been talking about me. And he has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer,” Wanyama told The Sun.
“Arsenal are a great club and I’d love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.
“But we’ve had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe.
“Then we’ll see where I end up in the summer.”
The Kenyan international later took to Twitter to deny he made these comments to the paper but that hasn’t stopped the speculation from linking him with a move to North London.
Wanyama has stoked the fire once again after being quoted in the Express as saying that ‘it would be nice’ to join Arsenal but the midfielder realises the ultimate decision lies with Southampton.
“It would be nice to move to Arsenal,”
“At this moment, such decisions can only be made by Southampton and that is where my concentration as a player is.”
Wenger is likely to bring in another holding midfielder this summer with the future’s of Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Mathieu Flamini all in serious doubt but we’ve also been strongly linked with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Geoffray Kondogbia and Artuto Vidal in recent weeks.
I’d personally prefer to see any of that trio come to Arsenal this summer but if Arsene isn’t able to pull-off a deal for any of those players, then Wanyama would be an excellent back-up option.

Southampton are likely to do all they can to hang on to him as they’ll want to prevent any more first team players leaving with Ronald Koeman preparing his side to venture into the Europa League next season, but we have the money to tempt the South Coast club into a sale if we really want him.
