As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Liverpool confirm their third summer signing….
Liverpool have announced today that they’ve agreed personal terms to sign Adam Bogdan on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers with the goalkeeper becoming their third signing of the summer.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been on the look out for a new goalkeeper after Brad Jones was released by the club having only made 11 league appearances during his five-year stay at Anfield.
Several names have been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months but newspaper reports earlier this week claimed the Merseysiders were closing in on a deal to sign Bogdan after he rejected a contract extension offer from Bolton.
That deal has now been wrapped-up with the club announcing on LiverpoolFC.com this morning that personal terms have been agreed with the 27-year-old and he’ll join on a free transfer on July 1.
A statement said:
Liverpool FC are pleased to announce that personal terms have been agreed with Adam Bogdan and the goalkeeper will join the club on a free transfer on July 1 after his contract with Bolton Wanderers has expired.
Bogdan has been an excellent servant for Bolton since breaking into the first team in 2011 and he’s racked up more than 100 appearances for the club at both Premier League and Championship level, while he caught the eye with an outstanding man-of-the-match performance during a 0-0 draw at Anfield in the FA Cup last season.
The Hungarian international is currently away on international duty preparing for Saturday’s European Championship qualifier against Finland where he should earn his 20th cap for his nation.
Rodgers was initially expected to bring in a new No.1 after axing Simon Mignolet from the first team in January but with the Belgian’s form improving during the closing stages of last season, it appears the Reds boss has decided to sign a reliable No.2 instead.
Bogdan has become Liverpool’s third signing of the summer after they also agreed deals to sign James Milner and Danny Ings, subject to medicals.
