Man Utd Open Talks Over Potential €35m Move For Slovenian International
Man Utd have opened talks with Jan Oblak over a potential €35m move to Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal looks to bring in a replacement for David De Gea
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak…
Manchester United have opened talks with Jan Oblak over a potential €35m move to Old Trafford this summer as Louis van Gaal looks to bring in a replacement for Real Madrid-bound David De Gea, according to reports.
The Spanish stopper is set to enter the final year of his contract and with no sign of an extension being signed, United are going to be forced to cash-in with a move to the Bernabeu looking like a formality.
The Daily Mail claim that van Gaal will only give the green light to De Gea’s departure once he’s found a replacement and the Dutch coach has apparently identified Atletico Madrid No.1 Jan Oblak as a key target.
The newspaper suggests that United have already made contact with the Slovenian international’s camp to discuss a potential move but Atletico aren’t going to let him go on the cheap.
The Mirror are running a similar story and claim the La Liga outfit are demanding €35m (£25m) for Oblak’s signature – which is double the price they paid Benfica for the 22-year-old just 12 months ago.
It remains to be seen whether United will be willing to meet that figure for the Oblak but he would be something of a surprise choice if van Gaal does end up taking the player to Old Trafford this summer.
Many feel United would opt to go for a more established name such as Petr Cech or Hugo Lloris if De Gea does leave and while Oblak showed potential during his debut season at Atletico, he’s only really got two years of top level football under this belt.

De Gea has been such a key figure for United over the past couple of seasons they should really be looking to bring in an experienced name so I’d personally be shocked if they agreed to spend €35m on a youngster like Oblak.
