Man Utd To Table €27.6m Bid For World Class Chelsea Target, Agent Hints At Move
Manchester United are set to table an audacious €27.6m bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos but could yet face competition from Chelsea for his signature
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Sergio Ramos…
Manchester United are set to table an audacious €27.6m bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos but could yet face competition from Chelsea for his signature, according to reports.
Ramos is currently in his tenth season at Madrid having joined the club from Sevilla in 2005 and has enjoyed an illustrious career at the Bernabeu that’s seen him win three La Liga titles and one Champions League trophy.
However, the 29-year-old’s future has come under scrutiny in recent months as talks over a new deal are at a stalemate with the defender looking for a new deal despite still having two years remaining on his current contract.
Reports suggest Ramos is demanding a huge pay rise that would see him take home £10m-per-season but Madrid are refusing to meet those demands, leading to speculation he could be on the move this summer.
The Express claim that Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs who are interested in luring him to the Premier League with United apparently ready to test Madrid’s resolve with a €27.6m (£20m) bid.
It remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants would be prepared to cash-in at that price but the defenders agent has hinted it might be time for his client to seek a new challenge by suggesting Ramos may decide to finish his career at another club.
Rene Ramos told reporters:
“For now he still has two years of contract. We await the call of the club but Real Madrid have not called me.
“For now there are no talks. Perhaps it is best if he doesn’t finish his career at Real Madrid but at another club. We never know.
“Football is changing so fast – you must enjoy the moment.” Rene Ramos is quoted as saying by the Express
We’ll have to wait and see whether Madrid decide to enter into negotiations over a new deal or perhaps decide now is the best time to cash-in on the Spanish international, but he’d be an excellent signing for either United or indeed Chelsea.
Louis van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market with a centre-back likely to be a priority and Ramos would certainly be a huge upgrade on the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has already confirmed he’s on the look out for another defender and he knows Ramos well from their time together at Madrid, so perhaps they may be reunited at Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, I’d still be surprised if Madrid did opt to sell as Ramos has been an integral part of their team for the last decade, so I’m sure a new deal will eventually be sorted out.
