Jack Wilshere and Wayne Rooney were both on target as England took a huge step towards qualification for the European Championships with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Slovenia this evening.
The hosts took the lead shortly before half-time when Milivoje Novakovic slotted past Joe Hart but England levelled things up in the 57th minute when Wilshere thrashed home from the edge of the area for 1-1.
The Arsenal midfielder then produced another moment of magic as he fired home a thunderous strike from 25 yards following a fine move involving Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana.
Slovenia refused to lay down and made it 2-2 in the 84th minute when Nejc Pecnik beat Kieran Gibbs at the far post to head home the equaliser but Rooney won it for England as the Manchester United striker raced up the other end to slot home for 3-2 just one minute later.
The win leaves Roy Hodgson’s men nine points clear at the top of Group E and well on course to reaching the finals.
