Spanish Star Set To Snub Chelsea In Favour Of Man Utd Move

Sergio Ramos is ready to snub interest from Chelsea in favour of joining Man Utd as the defender looks to push for a move away from Real Madrid this summer

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Sergio Ramos is tipped to join Man Utd….

Sergio Ramos is ready to snub interest from Chelsea in favour of joining Manchester United as the defender looks to push for a move away from Real Madrid this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Ramos has just finished off his tenth season at Madrid having joined the club from Sevilla in 2005 and he’s enjoyed an illustrious career at the Bernabeu that’s seen him win 3 La Liga titles and 1 Champions League.

The 29-year-old’s future in the Spanish capital has been questioned in recent months as talks over a new deal have stalled and the Daily Star claim that Ramos has grown tired of the situation and is now looking for a move this summer.

He still has two years remaining on his current deal but this is likely to be the defenders last big contract of his career so understandably he wants to secure a lucrative deal and it seems he could be offered a big pay day here in the Premier League.

The Express reported earlier this month that Chelsea and Man Utd were among the clubs who are interested in signing Ramos this summer with the Red Devils supposedly ready to test Madrid’s resolve with a £20m offer.

The speculation intensified when the players agent, Rene Ramos, told reporters that he’s still waiting to hear back from Madrid and questioned the centre-backs long-term future at the club.

“For now he still has two years of contract. We await the call of the club but Real Madrid have not called me.

“For now there are no talks. Perhaps it is best if he doesn’t finish his career at Real Madrid but at another club. We never know.

“Football is changing so fast – you must enjoy the moment.” Rene Ramos is quoted as saying by the Express

It appears United have now moved into pole position as the Daily Star are claiming today that Ramos is set to snub interest from Chelsea and push for a move to the Red Devils this summer.

The newspaper suggests that the Spanish international has made Old Trafford his preferred destination with United willing to offer the defender a huge increase on his current salary.

Louis van Gaal is likely to bring in another central defender this summer as United were caught out at the back on several occasions last season and had to rely on the brilliance of David De Gea in goal to keep them in games at times.

No doubt Ramos would be a big upgrade on the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones if they were able to secure a deal for his services but we’ll have to wait and see how receptive Madrid are to selling one of their important first team regulars.

Rafa Benitez has only recently taken over from Carlo Ancelotti so he’ll want time to assess his squad carefully before making any decisions but with Raphel Varane ready to step in alongside Pepe, perhaps the Italian coach would be willing to sell Ramos and use the funds to strengthen his squad elsewhere.

If the defender does end up joining United it would come as a blow to Chelsea as Jose Mourinho knows him well from their time together at the Bernabeu and Ramos would have helped ease the load on 34-year-old skipper John Terry next season.

However, there’s still a long way to go before Ramos is a United player and things can change very quickly in football, so we’ll have to keep a close eye on developments over the coming days and weeks.
