Liverpool Pushing To Complete Deal After Man Utd Express Interest In 28-Goal Target
Liverpool are pushing to try and complete a £21.5m deal for Carlos Bacca after Manchester United registered their interest in signing the Sevilla striker
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd are linked with Carlos Bacca….
Liverpool are pushing to try and complete a £21.5m deal for Carlos Bacca after Manchester United also registered their interest in signing the Sevilla striker, according to the Mirror.
The Merseysiders announced the signing of Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino on their official website yesterday but it appears Brendan Rodgers is keen to further strengthen his attacking options with Bacca emerging as a serious target.
The 28-year-old has just come off the back of another excellent campaign with his 28 goal haul helping Sevilla to a fifth placed finish in the La Liga table while he also bagged a brace in the final as Unai Emery’s men retained the Europa League.
His impressive form in front of goal has led to speculation of a move this summer and the Liverpool Echo reported earlier this week that Liverpool had identified the Colombian hitman as a potential alternative to Christian Benteke as the Reds are unwilling to meet Aston Villa’s £32.5m asking price.
However, the Mirror claim that Liverpool have now stepped up their pursuit of Bacca after Manchester United registered their interest in signing the striker this summer.
The newspaper suggests that with chief executive Ian Ayre still out in Chile, the Merseysiders are hoping to push through a deal quickly and are prepared to meet the players £21.5m release clause to ensure they wrap-up the signing before United get a chance to make a rival offer.
Liverpool aren’t messing about in the transfer window as Firmino was their fifth signing of the summer, and the window hasn’t even officially opened yet, so it’s no surprise to hear they are already working on another deal.
Bacca would be an excellent addition if the Anfield club could pull it off as he’d bring a much-needed goal threat to a Liverpool side that only managed to score 52 league goals last season.

If Daniel Sturridge can keep himself fit then a strike-force of him and Bacca, supported by the likes of Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana and possibly Sterling, would pose a real threat next year and make Liverpool top-four contenders at the very least.
However, we’ll have to wait and see whether the Reds can get a deal wrapped-up before United step-up their interest. Louis van Gaal needs to bring in another striker after rejecting the chance to sign Radamel Falcao and Bacca would also be a useful signing at Old Trafford, but it looks like Liverpool are in pole position as it stands.
