Defender To Undergo Liverpool Medical On Monday & Sign 5-Year Contract
Man Utd target Nathaniel Clyne is due to arrive on Merseyside on Monday to undergo his Liverpool medical and sign a five-year contract ahead of his £12.5m move
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Liverpool close-in on Nathaniel Clyne….
Nathaniel Clyne is due to arrive on Merseyside on Monday to undergo his Liverpool medical and sign a five-year contract ahead of his £12.5m move from Southampton, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Brendan Rodgers has already been extremely busy in the transfer market after Roberto Firmino became his fifth signing of the summer last week but it looks like the number of new additions is set to rise to six over the coming days.
Having seen an opening £10m bid rejected for Clyne, the Express were one of several newspapers to report at the end of last week that Liverpool had seen an improved offer worth £10.5m up front with a further £2m in additional add ons accepted by Southampton.
The Reds have had to wait until the 24-year-old returned from holiday before they could push ahead with the move but now that Clyne is back in the country, the Liverpool Echo claim that the right-back is due to arrive on Merseyside on Monday to undergo his medical.
Once that formality is out the way, the newspaper states that the pacey full-back will then put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract and become Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.
If this deal goes through without a hitch, Clyne will be an excellent addition for Liverpool as he’s become one of the best full-backs in the Premier League over the past two years and he’s now a regular in Roy Hodgson’s senior England squad.
With Glen Johnson set to leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of this month, Rodgers desperately needed a new right-back and at just £12.5m, Clyne will be an absolute bargain for a player of his quality in today’s market.

The defender had reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United earlier this summer with the Express claiming that Louis van Gaal had renewed his interest in the Saints star after missing out on Barcelona’s Dani Alves.
However, it appears United didn’t make their interest official which paved the way for Liverpool to secure a deal and they’re now on the verge of wrapping-up another impressive piece of transfer business as Rodgers looks to build a squad capable of breaking in to the top four at the very least next season.
