Man Utd Miss Out As Chelsea Close In On Deal For Brazilian Attacker
Chelsea appear to have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Brazilian attacker Kenedy with the player set to move to Stamford Bridge from Fluninense
As the summer transfer window gets set to open for business, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea close in on a deal for Kenedy….
Chelsea appear to have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Brazilian attacker Kenedy with the player set to move to Stamford Bridge from Fluninense, according to the Sky Sports News.
Kenedy has emerged as one of the hottest properties in South America after putting in some impressive performances for Fluminense since breaking into the first team set-up in 2013.
The 19-year-old’s potential has caught the eye of some top Premier League clubs with the Daily Star claiming that both Chelsea and Manchester United have been tracking the teenager in recent months.
The Express also reported back in February that United were lining-up a £5m bid for the Brazilian youngster this summer but it appears the Red Devils have missed out as Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea are closing in on a deal for the highly-rated attacker.
The news comes after Kenedy was quoted by in the press back in February as saying that he was keen to join Chelsea and link-up with compatriot’s Oscar and Ramires.
“Of course I am happy to play for Fluminense but it is my ambition to one day play in Europe”,
“I like Chelsea because of players like Oscar and Ramires. I like the whole team.” Kenedy is quoted as saying by the Express
If Sky Sports sources are correct, then the South American is about to get his wish and he should fit right in at Stamford Bridge as the Blues have a growing number of Brazilian’s in their ranks.
As well as Ramires and Oscar, Chelsea also have fellow Samba Stars Willian, Felipe Luis, Lucas Piazon and Brazilian-born Diego Costa in their squad while Kenedy would follow Brazilian U-20 team-mate Nathan to West London after he completed his move from Atletico Paranaense last month.
It will be interesting to see what Jose Mourinho has planned for the youngsters but I’m guessing they will both be shipped out abroad on loan to get some valuable first team experience before being deemed ready to challenge for a place in the Blues’ squad.
Mourinho has a wealth of attacking talent available to him and the competition is going to be fierce so I think a season or two on loan will help Kenedy and Nathan in their development.

However, Kenedy will have to complete his move to Chelsea first and there is still time for United to make a late hijack attempt – although they may be wasting their time given the youngster has previously expressed his desire to play for the Premier League champions.
