Star To Fly In For Man Utd Medical Ahead Of £14m Move After Agreeing 3-Year Deal
Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is due to fly in to England to undergo his medical after agreeing a three-year deal to join Manchester United
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Bastian Schweinsteiger…..
Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is due to fly in to England to undergo his medical after agreeing a three-year deal to join Manchester United this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Schweinsteiger has just one year remaining on his current contract at the Allianz Arena and has been stalling on committing his future to the club after losing his automatic first team place under Pep Guardiola.
This has led to speculation linking the German international with a move to Old Trafford this summer with the Mirror reporting last month that United were confident of pulling off a sensational deal to lure the midfielder to England.
The rumours have died down somewhat in recent weeks but news broke late on Friday night that suggested Schweinsteiger was now Manchester-bound. The Daily Mail are citing reports from German publication BILD who claim that the 30-year-old has told Bayern bosses he won’t be signing a new deal and has agreed to join United on a three-year contract worth £7.2m per season.
The newspaper suggests that Schweinsteiger’s relationship with Louis van Gaal played a key role in his decision and the player is now on stand-by to fly in to the UK to undergo his medical at Old Trafford.
The Daily Mail believe a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs but the Express are one of several other papers who claim that the Bundesliga champions have accepted a £14m offer from the Red Devils.
If these reports are true, this will be a sensational coup for United as Schweinsteiger has been one of the best midfielders in European football over the past few years and although he’s now the wrong side of 30, I’m sure he’ll still have 2-3 years left in him at the highest level.
van Gaal has been looking to bring in another deep lying midfielder this summer to ease the load on Michael Carrick and there aren’t many better than Schweinsteiger in that role, so he’s sure to be a great success at Old Trafford.

We’ll have to wait for further developments but we should know a lot more by the end of the day as the Bayern squad is due to be presented to supporters at the Allianz this afternoon ahead of the new season so it will be interesting to see if Schweinsteiger is present.
The player has been with Bayern his entire professional career and has captained the club to a whole host of top honours including 8 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League, but it looks like he’s now ready for a new challenge and I can’t wait to see him in the Premier League.
