Man Utd Plotting Audacious Move For £95m-Rated Star As Part Of Double Swoop
Manchester United are plotting an audacious move for Gareth Bale as part of a big-money double swoop that will also involve defender Nicolas Otamendi.
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Gareth Bale….
Manchester United are plotting an audacious move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale as part of a double swoop that would also involve defender Nicolas Otamendi signing from Valencia, according to the Mirror.
Louis van Gaal has been extremely busy in the transfer market so far this summer with Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian all arriving in big-money deals over the past few weeks.
But it doesn’t look like the Dutchman is ready to slow down his spending spree any time soon as talkSPORT quoted the United boss as saying yesterday that a ‘surprise’ striker signing could still be on the cards this summer.
This has led to speculation over what van Gaal has up his sleeve but the Mirror claim that United are in fact plotting a sensational move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale with club sources apparently telling the newspaper that the Welsh international is still firmly on their radar.
Bale has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and the Mirror suggest that the Red Devils will make another attempt to prise the attacker away from the Bernabeu over the coming weeks, but they’ll have to be prepared to dig deep as the paper says that Madrid now value the 26-year-old at a whopping £95m.
It remains to be seen whether United will be prepared to pay what would be a world record fee but obviously Bale would be a major coup if the Manchester giants were able to pull it off this summer.
He’s endured a mixed time over in Spain since moving from Tottenham in 2013 as although he’s chipped in with 39 goals in 92 games to help the club win the Champions League and Copa del Rey, Bale has still been targetted for rough treatment by some sections of his own fanbase.
I’d personally be shocked if Madrid agreed to sell the player just yet and I have a feeling Bale would like to give it at least another season in Spain before heading back to the Premier League but we’ll have to wait and see how things develop.
If United could pull off a deal for Bale it could be part of a big-money double swoop as the Mirror claim that United are also hoping to wrap-up a deal for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi over the coming days.
The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford recently and the newspaper states that the Argentinean international has informed Valencia that he wants to leave to join United.
I suspect a new centre-back is a high priority for van Gaal now and Otamendi would be an excellent signing as he’s earned a reputation as one of the best defender’s in La Liga following his move 18 months ago.

If United could sign both Bale and Otamendi then I think they’d have a squad more than capable of winning the Premier League and making a real push for the Champions League this coming season. The Otamendi deal will be far easier to pull off than Bale but it sounds as though United are going to give it a good go over the next few weeks.
Will they be successful? Only time will tell….
