With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Edin Dzeko….
Arsenal are eyeing a surprise swoop on Manchester City for Edin Dzeko as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in another striker this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Like many fans, I think we need to sign another top class forward to make us genuine title challengers next season and it appears the boss agrees as the newspaper suggests he wants to strengthen our options in attack before the end of the window.
We’ve been linked with a number of strikers throughout Europe in recent weeks but it seems Wenger is ready to look a little closer to home as the Daily Star claim that Arsenal are eyeing a swoop for Man City hitman Edin Dzeko.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been credited with an interest in the Bosnian international and the paper says that his name has once again been discussed by Wenger and his scouting team during talks about potential striker targets.
Dzeko has been with City since joining the club from Wolfsburg in 2011 and despite not always being a regular, he’s still managed to score 71 goals in 185 appearances during his time in England.
However, last season was his worst as a City player as he registered just 6 goals in 31 games and it’s led to speculation that Manuel Pellegrini could be ready to cash-in on the 29-year-old this summer.
The Daily Star claim that AS Roma are keen to lure Dzeko to Italy but it’s understood the striker would prefer to remain in the Premier League which should put us in a strong position for his signature.
The big question would be whether City would be prepared to sell to a domestic rival and I’d personally be surprised if Pellegrini would be willing to strengthen Arsenal by selling them Dzeko – despite him falling out-of-favour.
But if the Gunners could persuade the Citizens to sell, I actually think Dzeko would be an astute signing and he’d provide useful competition to Olivier Giroud without breaking the bank.

The Bosnian has plenty of experience in English football and is a big target man who is useful with the ball at his feet, so I think he’d fit in well to our style of play if we could get a deal agreed.
My preferred option would be for a world class striker like Karim Benzema to arrive this summer but realistically I don’t see Real Madrid selling, so perhaps Dzeko could be a useful short-term fix who could help us challenge for the title next season.
