van Gaal Closes-In On 6th Signing As Player Tells Team-Mates He’s Joining Man Utd
Manchester United are closing-in on their sixth signing of the summer after Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen told team-mates he’s set for a move to Old Trafford
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Jasper Cillessen closes in on a move to Man Utd….
Manchester United are closing-in on their sixth signing of the summer after Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen told team-mates he’s set for a move to Old Trafford, according to El Confidencial.
United wrapped-up their fifth major signing of the summer window last week when goalkeeper Sergio Romero joined the club on a three-year deal after running down his contract at Sampdoria.
Louis van Gaal hinted that the Argentinean international could be set for the No.1 shirt with the Dutch boss quoted by the Express as saying that Romero was signed in preparation for David De Gea moving to Real Madrid.
However, it appears the South American may have to face yet more competition for the first team shirt if De Gea leaves as El Confidencial claim that Jasper Cillessen has told his Ajax team-mates that he’s set to join United this summer once the Spaniard seals his switch to Madrid.
The Spanish newspaper says that the Dutch international has flown out with the Ajax squad ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Rapid Vienna but is unlikely to feature as it would make him ineligible once he joins United, and Ajax have supposedly taken third-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana with them to Austria as back-up.
Nothing official has come out from any of the clubs involved as yet but it looks as though we’re waiting for De Gea to seal his move to the Bernabeu before Cillessen can complete his proposed switch to Old Trafford.
Obviously it will be a big blow if De Gea does end up heading back to Spain but it would then be an interesting battle between Romero and Cillessen for the No.1 shirt next season and at least van Gaal would have two top class options between the sticks.

Cillessen has developed into a fine keeper during his time at Ajax and van Gaal knows the 26-year-old well from their time together with the Dutch national team so I have a feeling he’d be favourite for the first team jersey, if he does end up joining United.
Let’s see how things develop but I personally think it’s only a matter of time before De Gea joins Madrid but it appears United already have his replacement lined-up.
