Man Utd Ready To Break Transfer Record To Sign Striker, Player Keen On Move
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller wants to follow Bastian Schweinsteiger to Man Utd and the Red Devils are ready to break their transfer record to sign him
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Thomas Muller is linked with Man Utd again….
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller wants to follow Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United and the Red Devils are ready to break the British transfer record to sign him this summer, according to the Express.
Muller has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and the speculation has been circulating again this summer amid rumours the German international has a difficult relationship with boss Pep Guardiola.
The Express claim that United have already seen two huge bids rejected – the last one believed to be worth a whopping £60m – with Bayern insisting the versatile forward won’t be sold at any price.
The newspaper suggests that Guardiola would be prepared to cash-in but chief executive Karl-Heinze Rummenigge is adamant Muller remains at the Allianz Arena as he’s concerned the Bundesliga is falling further behind the Premier League.
“The Bundesliga has to be careful not to fall further behind. We would be out of our minds to sell Muller.” Rummenigge is quoted as saying by the Express
So it appears Bayern are determined to hang on to the player. However, they could have a battle on their hands as the Express are running an ‘exclusive’ today that claims Muller has told close friends he wants to follow Bastian Schweinsteiger to Old Trafford this summer.
The newspaper suggests that Louis van Gaal is aware of the 25-year-old’s desire and will continue with his pursuit right until the end of the transfer window with United prepared to smash the British record to land him – which is set at the £59.7m United paid Real Madrid for Angel Di Maria last year.
With all the transfer news that is flying around these days it’s difficult to know what to believe but obviously Muller would be an excellent signing if United could somehow pull it off.
He’s capable of playing anywhere across the front line so his versatility would be very useful to van Gaal and despite not always playing as a striker, Muller has still managed to score 123 goals in 306 games during his career at Bayern.
United desperately need another option in attack following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao and Muller would be ideal, but I’d personally be surprised if any deal was to happen this summer.

Bayern appear determined to keep hold of him and he’s still under a long term contract, so they are under no pressure to sell. Muller would probably need to force his way out but I think that’s highly unlikely given his affiliation to Bayern. It’s one thing being keen on a move but quite another forcing your way out of your boyhood club.
Therefore, I think van Gaal is going to have to look elsewhere in his search for a new striker during the closing stages of the summer window.
