Chelsea have announced they’ve reached an agreement with Augsburg for the signing of Baba Rahman as Jose Mourinho closes in on his third signing of the summer
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea announce they’ve agreed a deal for Baba Rahman….
Chelsea have announced on Chelseafc.com that they have reached an agreement with Augsburg for the signing of Ghana left-back Baba Rahman as Jose Mourinho closes in on his third major signing of the summer.
The Blues have been in the market for a new left-back since selling Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid last month and Rahman has emerged as Jose Mourinho’s prime target in recent weeks.
After much speculation, Sky Sports News reported on Friday that the 21-year-old had passed his medical ahead of a deal that’s expected to cost the Blues in excess of £20 million.
Now, following their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City this afternoon, Chelsea have released a statement on their official website confirming that they’ve agreed a deal with Augsburg to sign the Ghana international.
No further details have been given at this stage but Rahman was quoted by Chelseafc.com as saying:
‘I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I can’t wait to train with my new team-mates and very much looking forward to working with them and Mr Mourinho.
‘I am also looking forward to having the opportunity to meet the fans as soon as possible.’
Rahman enjoyed a hugely impressive debut season at Augsburg last year with his excellent displays down the left flank helping the club secure a record fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga table last season.
The youngster will face a tough time breaking into the first team any time soon as Cesar Azpilicueta has established himself as Mourinho’s first choice left-back but he still has plenty of time to learn his trade further before pushing the Spaniard for the first team shirt.

Rahman is a pacey attack-minded full-back who’s also capable of playing as a winger when required so I’m sure his versatility will come in useful for Mourinho, and I think he’s going to be an excellent addition for the defending champions.
