Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Holds Talks Over Big-Money Double Swoop
Arsenal have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a stunning deadline day double swoop for striker Edinson Cavani and midfielder Adrien Rabiot
As the summer transfer window reaches it’s climax, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with a double swoop on PSG….
Arsenal have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a stunning deadline day double swoop for striker Edinson Cavani and midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to the Daily Mail.
Arsene Wenger has been extremely quiet in the transfer market so far with Petr Cech his only significant new addition but the boss is expected to be active on deadline day with a new striker and midfielder on his agenda.
We’ve been strongly linked with a number of high profile names over the course of the summer but it appears Wenger is now eyeing a sensational double swoop on the French champions.
The Daily Mail are one of several newspapers who are reporting that Arsenal held talks with Paris Saint-Germain on Monday about a double deal for striker Edinson Cavani and midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The newspaper says we turned our attention to Cavani after failing to sign Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and obviously he’d be a superb addition if we were able to secure an agreement as he’s a world class striker.
However, any deal for the Uruguayan international is going to be difficult to pull off at this late stage in the window, especially given that the French transfer window is now closed meaning PSG won’t be able to bring in a replacement.
So unless we’re willing to make the Ligue 1 champions an offer they simply can not refuse, I fail to see how Cavani will become an Arsenal player today. Does Wenger have a back-up plan? We’ll have to wait and see.
While a deal for Cavani looks increasingly unlikely, we could have more luck coming to an agreement for Rabiot. The defensive midfielder has played just 28 minutes of first team football so far this season after falling down the pecking so PSG are far more likely to be open to cashing-in.
Rabiot has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal for some time and he’d give us real strength and competition in the holding role so I’d love to see us get a deal agreed before tonight’s deadline.

If we could somehow bring in Cavani and Rabiot today I think we’d have a squad more than capable of winning the Premier League this season, but unfortunately I just don’t think Cavani is realistic at this stage of the summer so we may end up without a striker when the window closes at 6pm.
