Liverpool are hoping to receive a double injury boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester United as they wait on the fitness of Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Henderson has missed Liverpool’s last two games against Arsenal and West Ham due to a heel injury and he remains a doubt for this weekend’s huge game against United.

However, the Echo claim that the 25-year-old is responding well to treatment and while a final decision won’t be made over his availability until the end of the week, Liverpool are understood to be hopeful he will be passed fit.

That would be a major boost as Henderson has become a central figure for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season having been handed the captains armband following the departure of Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool are also sweating on the fitness of Adam Lallana after he picked up a minor thigh injury during the 1-0 win over Bournemouth last month – which also led to him sitting out the last two games.

Both Lallana and Henderson were forced to miss England’s recent 2016 European Championship qualifiers and remained back at Melwood to receive treatment but Rodgers is hoping both will be declared fit for Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford.

The Anfield club currently sit level on points with fifth-placed United after the opening four games of the new season so Rodgers will be keen to open the gap on their North West rivals by taking home all three points this weekend.
