Mourinho’s Team News Update: Key Man Ruled Out, 3 More Doubtful To Face Arsenal
Jose Mourinho has given a team news and injury update ahead of Chelsea clash with Arsenal on Saturday with one player out and three more doubtful.
Chelsea will look to get their Premier League title defence back on track when they take on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference and has given Chelseafc.com a team news and injury update.
The Blues boss revealed that Willian is certain to miss the game after being forced off with a hamstring injury during Wednesday night’s 4-0 thrashing of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Brazilian international had opened the scoring early on in the game before picking up the injury and it looks set to keep him out of the Arsenal clash tomorrow.
Mourinho also confirmed that he has doubts over three of his attacking players with Oscar, Pedro and Radamel Falcao all facing late fitness tests to see if they’ll be in contention.
Oscar only returned to action in midweek following three games on the sidelines so Mourinho will assess how the playmaker has reacted before making a decision over his involvement against Arsenal.
Falcao has been struggling with a knee injury while Pedro also missed the Maccabi game with a thigh problem, and the duo will also face late fitness tests before Mourinho makes a final decision on whether they’ll be in the squad tomorrow afternoon.
The Portuguese boss told Chelseafc.com:
‘I don’t have much news,’ Mourinho said. ‘I select every player for the game because we have doubts. Tomorrow I don’t want to be in a situation where during the warm-up somebody doesn’t have the best feelings, and we have lots of players in this situation.
‘Willian is not even an option. Pedro, Falcao and Oscar – let’s see what happens. They are not definitely ruled out but let’s see.’

Chelsea head into the weekend action sitting 17th in the table after a disappointing start to the new campaign that’s seen them take just four points from their opening five matches, so the West Londoners desperately need a win if they are to have any chance of keeping pace with leaders Manchester City.
