Matt Miazga is on his way to London to undergo a medical after Chelsea agreed a deal worth £3.5m with New York Red Bulls for the Manchester United target
With the winter transfer window in full swing, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Chelsea are set to sign Matt Miazga….
Matt Miazga is on his way to London to undergo a medical after Chelsea agreed a deal worth £3.5m with New York Red Bulls for the Manchester United target, according to the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old centre-back has been touted as the best defender in the MLS this season after putting in a string of impressive displays for the Red Bulls and his potential has caught the eye of several top Premier League clubs.
The Mail claim that the likes of United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City have all been keeping a close eye on the player’s progress in recent months but it looks as though Chelsea have now beaten their rivals to the defender’s signature.
The newspaper states the Blues wrapped-up a £3.5m deal on Wednesday night while the Telegraph are reporting that Miazga is flying to England to undergo his medical after being given permission to leave the US national team training camp ahead of friendlies against Iceland and Canada.
According to the Mail, US boss Jurgen Klinsmann has given Miazga the green light to complete a move to Stamford Bridge only on the understanding that he’s given assurances he’ll have a chance to push for the first team and won’t be shipped out on loan.
Miazga has just one year left to run on his Red Bulls contract so Chelsea have been able to snap him up for a bargain £3.5m, and the player won’t require a work permit as he holds a Polish passport.

Major League Soccer are expected to announce the transfer within the next 24 hours so it looks like Chelsea are set to wrap-up their first piece of transfer business this month with the 6ft 4in centre-back coming in to replace Papy Djilobodji – who joined Werder Breman on loan last week.
It’s certainly an interesting move by the Premier League champions and Miazga looks to be an exciting young talent who could end up being the long-term replacement for 35-year-old skipper John Terry.
