Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho Plans To Splash £300m Warchest On Neymar & Pogba
Jose Mourinho will be handed a £300m warchest when he becomes Manchester United boss this summer and will target marquee names such as Neymar and Paul Pogba
With the winter transfer window closed, manager’s are now looking ahead towards the summer and planning deals for next season. Today, Jose Mourinho is eyeing some marquee signings if he’s named as the new Manchester United boss….
Jose Mourinho will be handed a £300m warchest when he becomes Manchester United boss this summer and will target marquee names such as Neymar and Paul Pogba, according to the Daily Star.
Louis van Gaal’s position as United manager has come under increasing scrutiny over the past few months and it’s led to speculation that Mourinho will take over in the Old Trafford hot-seat at the end of the season.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Mourinho has already informed close pals that his move to United is a ‘done deal’ with Red Devils’ officials believing the Portuguese coach is the only man who can take on Pep Guardiola – who’ll take over at bitter rivals Manchester City this summer.
It looks like preparations are already underway for Mourinho’s arrival as the Daily Star claim that United chiefs want Jose to build a team capable of competing for top trophies and have promised to make £300m available to spend on new signings.
An apparent ‘source’ close to the club told the paper:
“If Jose comes in he will be given whatever it takes to make United the best again.
“But it isn’t just about how much is spent, what matters is how it is spent because United need the right players to take the forward. Only genuine world class stars will be looked at.”
It appears Mourinho has some ambitious targets in mind with the newspaper suggesting he’ll look to bring in marquee names such as Neymar, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Thomas Muller and Raphael Varane while the club also still hold an interest in Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Obviously they wont be able to land ALL of those players, even with £300m to spend, but it gives you an idea of the level of players Mourinho will be targetting if/when he’s installed as United boss this summer.
So it looks like it’s going to be another busy summer at Old Trafford with the proposed spending coming after van Gaal splashed over £250m on new signings since replacing David Moyes in 2014.
Many of the Dutchman’s signings have struggled to live up to their price-tags with the likes of Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera all failing to impress at times, so Mourinho will be under pressure to get things right this time around.

For now, this all remains paper-talk and van Gaal has reacted angrily when questioned about his position as manager, but it does seem inevitable that he’ll leave the club this summer with Mourinho the huge odds-on favourite to take over.
It will be fascinating to see how the so-called ‘Special One’ does at United if he is installed as manager, but he has the reputation to lure big-names to Old Trafford even if they miss out on Champions League qualification and you wouldn’t bet against him turning the Red Devils back in to title challengers next season.
